As a Junior Mechatronics engineer, you will be participating in the research, development and deployment of AI enabled robot cells for material handling and logistics applications. You will collaborate with Operations, Software, and Machine Learning teams to research, design, integrate, test and deploy new robotic hardware including: robot cell designs, end effectors, cameras, lighting, HW control devices (PLCs, I/O couplers, sensors, etc), pneumatics, actuators, and custom mechanisms.
We value candidates who are passionate about what they build, feel a strong sense of ownership over their work, are driven to succeed and appreciate a harmonious work environment.
What You'll be Doing- Design, prototype, and test ML-enabled robotic automation systems
- Develop system-level designs for cell controls using off-the-shelf hardware (I/O couplers, PLCs, sensors)
- Support pneumatic and electrical design, with guidance from senior engineers
- Work with domestic and offshore integration partners on the build and deployment of robotic cells
- Contribute to feasibility and cost analyses for new mechatronic systems
- Draft and maintain technical specifications
- Test and characterize electromechanical and optical systems
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues to keep equipment ready for demos and development
Experience and Skills You'll Need- 1+ years of machine design or mechatronics experience in industry
- Strong SolidWorks skills, including building and maintaining multi-level assemblies and including modeling and creation of detailed drawings
- Understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFA) principles
- Experience designing for 3D printing, sheet metal, CNC machining, and welding
- Experience specifying and integrating off-the-shelf controls hardware
- Comfort around machine tools, and the ability to fabricate prototypes in-house
- Experience working with outside partners or vendors on design, fabrication, assembly, or test
- Clear written and verbal communication, and a collaborative working style
- Willingness to learn and thrive in a fast-paced, small-team environment
- Ability to work on-site 4-5 days per week
- Ability to travel 20-30% of the time, including for installation and deployment of new projects
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required, OSARO will not provide H1B visa
Bonus if You Have- Experience managing multiple projects and priorities
- Scripting skills (Python or similar)
- Familiarity with motors, encoders, linear actuators, pneumatics, and sensors
- Detailed pneumatic or electrical design experience
- PLC programming or industrial controls experience
- Programming articulated industrial robots (Fanuc, KUKA, Yaskawa, etc.)
- Robot simulation experience (ROBOGUIDE or similar)
- End-of-arm tool design
- 2D/3D machine vision experience (Cognex, Datalogic, Keyence, Sick, or custom)
$90,000 - $100,000 a year
