The Junior Biometrics Software Engineer - BCS will report to the Software Development Manager and work as part of a collaborative team of software engineers, DevOps engineers, QA engineers, and business analysts. This role is responsible for developing, enhancing, and supporting biometric software solutions used for identity verification, biometric enrollment, matching, and integration with immigration and border management systems.
This is a hands-on technical role, and candidates should be prepared to demonstrate relevant experience and technical expertise.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, test, and maintain biometric software applications and services across web and Windows-based platforms.
- Assist in implementing biometric processing solutions, including fingerprint, facial recognition, and identity management technologies.
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
- Develop and maintain APIs, services, and applications that support biometric data processing and system integration.
- Support integration of biometric hardware devices such as fingerprint scanners, cameras, and enrollment stations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, performance issues, and integration challenges.
- Apply secure coding practices and contribute to maintaining system security, reliability, and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support immigration and border security operations globally.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to maintaining high development standards and code quality.
- Support CI/CD processes using GitHub, Azure DevOps, and related development tools.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for developed solutions and integrations.
Required Skills & Experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience in software development using C# and .NET technologies.
- Experience developing applications using .NET Framework, .NET Core, or modern .NET platforms.
- Exposure to biometric technologies such as fingerprint, facial recognition, iris recognition, or identity verification systems.
- Experience developing and consuming RESTful APIs and web services.
- Working knowledge of SQL Server, database design, and query optimization.
- Experience developing secure applications and understanding application security best practices.
- Familiarity with integrating third-party SDKs, hardware devices, or external systems.
- Experience using GitHub or similar source control systems.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience working with biometric SDKs, ABIS/AFIS systems, or identity management platforms.
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems concepts.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
- Knowledge of biometric industry standards such as NIST, ICAO, ANSI, or ISO.
- Experience working in government, homeland security, immigration, border management, or law enforcement technology environments.
- Familiarity with cloud-based technologies and containerized applications.
- Experience developing Windows desktop applications and services.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant software engineering experience.
Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and professional experience may be considered.
