Overview
We are looking for a technically skilled, design-driven Job Captain to join their Residential (Single-Family/Townhomes) team in San Diego, CA. In this role, you'll work under the guidance of senior team members and take ownership of key technical aspects of major residential projects-or several smaller ones-from late design through construction, helping to investigate, evaluate, and recommend design solutions that best meet client needs.

This is a hybrid position, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week onsite at their Pleasanton office.

What You'll Do

  • Provide architectural support and consultation from the end of Design Development through building permit submittal and Construction Administration.
  • Apply advanced architectural concepts and design solutions across a range of residential product types.
  • Review and coordinate drawings to ensure they meet established specifications, standards, and code requirements.
  • Help monitor project budgets and schedules and maintain clear, accurate project documentation.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, and other technical documents as needed.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, consultants, and internal technical staff.
  • Supervise and mentor technical staff when appropriate, including redlining and quality-checking others' work.

What You'll Bring

  • Strong knowledge of building codes and how different residential product types and occupancies affect building design and construction.
  • Proven experience producing comprehensive construction drawing sets from start to finish.
  • Strong skills in SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Revit/BIM; experience with Adobe Design/Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience working in the construction phase of projects (e.g., CA, RFIs, submittals, coordination with consultants).
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a coordinated project team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, independent thinking, strong listening skills, and reliable follow-through.
  • Strong graphic, communication, organizational, and collaboration skills, with the ability to provide clear direction to architectural staff.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional architectural experience, including at least 1 year serving as a Job Captain.
  • Experience in residential housing (single-family and townhomes) is preferred.
  • Professional architectural degree from a NAAB-accredited 4- or 5-year program.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth, ideally including progress toward architectural licensure.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Benefits
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Pre-tax Flexible Spending Plan
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
  • 401(k)
