Full Job Description
Overview
We are looking for a technically skilled, design-driven Job Captain to join their Education team in San Diego, CA. In this role, you will work closely with a senior project leader and take ownership of key technical aspects of large projects-or several smaller projects-from late design through construction, helping to investigate, evaluate, and recommend design solutions that best serve our clients' needs.

This is a hybrid position, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week onsite at their Irvine, Pleasanton, or San Diego office.

What You'll Do

  • Provide architectural support and consultation from late Design Development through building permit submittal and Construction Administration for K-12 projects.
  • Apply advanced architectural concepts and design solutions that respond to educational program needs and code requirements.
  • Review and coordinate drawings and details to ensure they meet established standards, specifications, and DSA requirements.
  • Help monitor project budgets and schedules, and maintain clear, accurate project documentation.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, and other technical documents as needed.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, consultants, and internal technical teams.
  • Supervise and mentor technical staff as appropriate, including redlining and quality-checking others' work.


What You'll Bring

  • Strong knowledge of building codes, with an understanding of how different project types and occupancies impact building design and construction.
  • Proven experience producing complete construction document sets from start to finish.
  • Solid skills in SketchUp, AutoCAD, and Revit/BIM; experience with Adobe Creative/Design Suite is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience working in the construction phases of projects (CA, RFIs, submittals, etc.).
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a coordinated project team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, good listening skills, and reliable follow-through.
  • Excellent graphic, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and provide clear direction to architectural staff.


Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience in architecture, including at least 1 year serving as a Job Captain.
  • California K-12 project experience and DSA experience are required.
  • Professional architectural degree from a NAAB-accredited 4- or 5-year program.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth, ideally including progress toward architectural licensure.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer; visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
