Summary

IT Project Manager II / III | IT PMO

As an IT Project Manager in APS's IT PMO, you will lead complex, high-impact technology initiatives that support the reliable delivery of energy to customers and communities. This role connects strategy to execution-driving multi-year projects that strengthen infrastructure, modernize systems, and support generation and customer operations. Your leadership helps ensure APS continues to provide dependable, forward-looking energy solutions while advancing innovation across the organization.

What Your Day Would Be Like:
  • Lead multiple large-scale IT projects (often 7-10 at a time) with budgets ranging from $5M-$10M, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and on budget
  • Partner with teams across the business-including generation, customer operations, and technical groups-to deliver solutions that improve service and reliability
  • Build and execute project plans, aligning timelines, resources, and priorities across multi-year initiatives
  • Guide cross-functional teams and vendors, fostering collaboration and keeping stakeholders informed and aligned
  • Identify and mitigate risks, making informed decisions to keep complex projects moving forward successfully
  • Support initiatives involving infrastructure, networking, hardware, and battery-related technologies critical to APS operations

Minimum Requirements

IT Project Manager II | IT PMO
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field
  • PLUS five (5) years of prior relevant experience managing projects in the area of software applications, IT infrastructure or cybersecurity or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • In lieu of bachelor's degree, combination of college coursework and/or experience as a Project Manager or in positions defining and/or managing project scopes, timelines, budgets and delivery equaling nine (9) years.
  • Experience managing multiple small-to-medium size projects simultaneously.


IT Project Manager III | IT PMO
  • Bachelors' degree in Information Technology or related field
  • PLUS eight (8) years of prior relevant experience managing large scale IT projects in the area of software applications, IT infrastructure or cybersecurity or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Working project management knowledge and experience developing or updating project plans for information technology projects (including information such as project objectives, technologies, systems, information specifications, schedules, funding, and staffing).


Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:
  • Knowledge or Qualifications: Experience delivering business results through IT Deployment, excellent communication, negotiation and leadership skills.
  • Ability to build strong Client/Customer relationships.
  • Strong critical thinking and creativity skills along with the ability to exercise sound judgment by making decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • Able to understand needs and values of stakeholders and team members and apply that understanding to motivate behaviors and results.
  • Ability to manage multi-discipline teams and technical functions.
  • PMP certification highly preferred


Major Accountabilities

1) Under general supervision, coordinate with diverse stakeholders and disciplines to ensure development of moderate scale project plans, effective resource planning, project estimates, project organization and roles and responsibilities
2) Determine project lifecycle In accordance with internal process methodologies
3) Develop and assign project schedules, tasks, milestones, deliverables, and dependencies
4) Prepare necessary scope definitions, cost estimates, economic analysis, schedule milestones, and other project objectives to obtain work authorizations
5) Control and manage impact of scope-creep throughout the project life cycle.
6) Analyze impact of scope change requests on deliverables, cost, schedule and project resources.
7) Assist in the coordination of production change management for the project
8) May help train and assist entry level Project Managers

Home based: Home based employees primarily work from their home offices and come into an APS facility on an as-needed basis.

*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

*Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
