Full Job Description
R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited (Burnside) is seeking an Intermediate to Senior Air Specialist to join our established Air & Noise Group. This role can be based out of any of our Ontario offices and reports to the Manager, Air & Noise.

We welcome applications from professionals with 6+ years of relevant experience in air quality consulting in Ontario.

Our Air & Noise Group includes chemical engineers, environmental scientists, and technicians with backgrounds in chemistry and physics. The team supports a wide range of projects for municipal, private sector, and Indigenous clients across land development, industrial, and transportation sectors.

What You'll Be Doing

In this role, you'll take a lead technical position on air quality assessments, contributing to projects from analysis through to regulatory submission and review. Your work will include:

  • Preparing Air Quality Impact Assessments for submission to the MECP in support of Environmental Assessments (EAs), Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECAs), Environmental Activity and Sector Registries (EASRs), and land use compatibility reviews for municipalities
  • Collecting required field or background information, or directing and overseeing other staff in data collection
  • Completing technical calculations, interpreting results, and confidently defending report conclusions
  • Building and running dispersion and noise models using AERMOD and Excel-based tools
  • Providing peer review services to municipalities for air quality studies
  • Troubleshooting construction monitoring equipment and reviewing monitoring data and reports
  • Collaborating with colleagues across disciplines and contributing to a high-performing technical team
  • Supporting additional project or team needs as required

Required qualifications and experience:

  • A degree in Chemistry (Air Quality) or a related scientific or engineering discipline
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in air quality consulting in Ontario
  • In-depth knowledge of O. Reg. 419/05 and how this regulation is applied in practice
  • Strong attention to detail and a personal standard for producing high-quality technical deliverables
  • Solid mathematical aptitude and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary consulting environment

Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000

The final compensation offered will be based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and market conditions.
