Summary:
DMC is currently looking for a Intermediate Engineer, Mechanical to join our team on a permanent basis, based in Thunder Bay, ON. The Intermediate Engineer, Mechanical is responsible for conceptualizing, planning, coordinating, and executing parts of the projects requiring the application of advanced technical knowledge and mechanical engineering experience. Directs, guides and reviews work of others. Provides advice and assistance to a multi-disciplinary workforce.
Responsibilities:
• Mechanical engineer on projects; planning, managing, and coordinating the mechanical engineering activities on large and technically complex portions of projects.
• Oversees the sizing, selection, layout, and specification of mechanical/process equipment.
• Performs and/or reviews calculations.
• Works closely with peers, project teams, other discipline leads, clients, and technical managers to deliver on time, fit for purpose designs.
• Facilitates inter-discipline co-ordination during the development and implementation of design.
• Ensures that all project scope items are addressed, and quality objectives met while ensuring adherence to project schedules and budgets.
• Oversees the mechanical document checking and design verification in accordance with company and project procedures.
• Evaluates and reviews all documentation and deliverables such as mechanical and piping calculations, drawings, etc.
• Assesses the conceptual equipment layouts and general arrangement drawings.
• Develops, plans, evaluates and recommends solutions for difficult problems.
• Interfaces with all other engineering team members to support projects.
• Delegates workload to subordinates, determines priorities, provides advice and assistance as required.
• Develops technical expertise of assigned staff and assists personnel in other disciplines in achieving objectives.
• Prepares proposals, contract design drawings and calculations, and other engineering documentation.
• Approves and issues drawings and other engineering documents.
• Coaches, trains, and mentors Engineers, Designers, and Drafters.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Ontario.
• 4 - 10 years of mechanical engineering experience on industrial projects.
• Experience on underground mining projects is an asset.
• Experience in the design, specification, and layout of underground & surface process systems including pumping and piping, mine and shaft services & dewatering, and industrial ventilation.
• Relevant experience with other mechanical systems such as mine ventilation, mine hoisting, shaft conveyances, or material handling would be an asset.
• Working knowledge of software such as, Autodesk Plant 3D, Revit, Navisworks, or SolidWorks would be an asset.
• Experience with FEA, piping stress analysis, risk reviews (i.e. HAZOPs), or root cause failure analysis is an asset.
• Strong understanding of Engineering standards, codes, regulations and guidelines.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience working directly with designers in a 3D model environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Additional Information:
• Salary Range is expected to be between $92,000 to $134,000 + short-term incentive plan bonus
