Full Job Description
Reporting to the Development Manager, we are hiring an Intermediate .NET Developer to play a key technical role in transforming established financial software used by Housing Finance Agencies across the United States. You will join at the early stages of a major replatforming initiative, helping shape the architecture and design of a modern system while taking ownership of back-end development for assigned products. Working closely with the Development Manager and a collaborative development team, you will turn complex legacy applications into modern, reliable solutions, influence technical decisions, and help guide the work from initial design through delivery.
This is a full-time, remote role based in the United States, working 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern time.
What's in it for you
Ownership from the start. You will join at the early stages of replatforming established financial applications, helping shape the architecture and design of the new system. As a technical lead on the project, you will influence key decisions, guide other developers, and see your ideas take shape in a modern platform.
Meaningful technical challenges. You will take on the complexity of transforming legacy applications that customers rely on, using modern .NET technologies and cloud-hosted environments. You will tackle architectural challenges, improve performance and maintainability, and help establish technical standards for the evolving platform. You will see the impact of your work as established applications become more modern, reliable, and scalable.
Explore emerging technologies. You will join a team that actively encourages and supports the use of AI-assisted development tools. Whether you already use these tools or want to gain experience, you will have the opportunity to experiment, build practical skills, and explore how AI can improve coding, testing, and problem-solving.
How you will make an impact
Lead the replatforming effort. You will take a technical lead role in modernizing our financial software, helping transform legacy applications into a modern, integrated platform. Starting with an established financial module, you will work with the team to translate existing functionality into new solutions, improve the user experience, and build a foundation for modernizing additional modules.
Own back-end architecture and development. You will define service structures, API contracts, and data-access patterns for assigned products, working closely with the Development Manager on technical direction. You will design, build, and maintain web applications and RESTful APIs using C# and modern .NET technologies, making thoughtful architectural decisions that support security, performance, and long-term maintainability.
Build connected, reliable solutions. You will collaborate closely with our database and front-end developers to ensure the application, database, and front-end layers work together effectively. You will develop and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures, contribute to Angular functionality as needed, and troubleshoot complex issues across the application stack.
Drive development and delivery. You will work with Product Management to turn requirements and the product roadmap into technical plans, development tasks, and realistic estimates. You will contribute throughout the agile development lifecycle, from design and coding to testing, deployment, and ongoing support, documenting key technical decisions and ensuring the team has the information needed to maintain and evolve the platform.
Guide technical practices. You will provide technical direction to developers and contractors through design discussions, code reviews, and knowledge sharing. You will help establish consistent coding and design standards, strengthen development practices, and support the delivery of reliable, maintainable software across the team.
Explore AI-assisted development. You will incorporate AI-assisted tools into your development workflow where they add value, exploring ways to improve coding, testing, troubleshooting, and productivity. You will share insights and practical approaches with colleagues as the team continues to learn and evolve how it uses these technologies.
You bring
The .NET expertise. You have strong hands-on experience developing and maintaining web applications and RESTful APIs using C# and .NET/.NET Core. You understand object-oriented programming, SOLID principles, and established design patterns, and can apply them to build secure, reliable, and maintainable applications.
The architectural experience. You have experience designing back-end systems and making technical decisions about service structures, APIs, and data access. You can evaluate different approaches, explain technical trade-offs, and translate requirements into practical solutions. You are comfortable taking ownership of complex development work and providing technical guidance to other developers.
The full-stack capabilities. Your primary strength is back-end development, complemented by working knowledge of Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. You can develop and maintain front-end functionality, integrate applications with APIs, and investigate issues across the application stack without needing to be a front-end specialist.
The database skills. You have experience working with SQL Server, T-SQL, stored procedures, and relational database design. You understand how to optimize queries and work with data-access technologies such as Entity Framework Core or Dapper to support application performance and reliability.
The problem-solving approach. You have worked with complex, established applications and can understand existing functionality, troubleshoot issues, and identify opportunities for modernization and improvement. You bring experience with automated testing, code reviews, and cloud technologies such as Azure or AWS. Exposure to legacy migrations, microservices, or financial software would be valuable.
The adaptability and curiosity. You are comfortable learning new technologies and exploring tools that improve how software is developed. You may have experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Cursor, or you are interested in building those skills. Familiarity with development and DevOps tools such as Git and Azure DevOps is an asset.
The collaboration. You communicate technical ideas clearly, work effectively with product stakeholders and distributed development teams, and enjoy sharing knowledge with others. You are comfortable balancing development with technical guidance and bring curiosity and a willingness to learn, experiment, and incorporate emerging tools into your work.
