POSITION OVERVIEWThe Interconnection Engineer is a member of the Project Engineering organization responsible for the technical execution and coordination of grid interconnection activities for utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), solar PV, hybrid renewable, and data center energy infrastructure projects. This role is critical to project feasibility and requires deep understanding of ISO/RTO processes, utility coordination, and grid integration for both generation and large load applications.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Serve as the Project Engineering technical lead for grid interconnection requirements on assigned projects.
- Translate Interconnection Agreement (IA), Generator Interconnection Agreement (GIA), utility, ISO/RTO, and transmission-owner requirements into project engineering requirements.Develop interconnection strategies across projects
- Manage interconnection applications, studies, and agreements
- Interface with utilities and ISOs/RTOs
- Track milestones, timelines, and upgrade costs
- Identify and mitigate interconnection risks
- Maintain interconnection positions through COD
- Track technical interconnection issues through resolution.
- Maintain traceability between study assumptions, equipment selection, final design, commissioning settings, and as-built configuration.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of interconnection or power systems experience
- Deep understanding of ISO/RTO processes and utility tariffs
- Experience with CAISO a plus
- Experience with:
- Large load interconnections (data centers)
- DER / BTM / hybrid systems applications
- Strong technical understanding of transmission and distribution systems
- Proven ability to manage utility and regulatory relationships
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work accurately under time pressure.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present technical findings in a clear, concise business format.
- Ability to work effectively across commercial, operational, and financial teams.
