Overview

 

Position Summary

Providing daily Instrumentation Designer support to site team. Charleston, WV Office

Performs routine to difficult design assignments, which require knowledge and skill in basic design techniques, procedures, knowledge of applicable industry standards, and instrument industry standards.  Supervises junior design personnel.  Assignments are designed to further develop the incumbent’s job knowledge and abilities.

Responsibilities

10–15-year experience in chemical/petrochemical/refinery Industry.

Experience coordinating with instrumentation vendors and soliciting pricing.

Familiarity with DCS systems.

Leads and maintains the budget for the instrument design budget.

Reviews, and is responsible for meeting the schedule and advising management of schedule errors and deviations from the schedule.

Prepares design man-hour estimates for new projects and changes in design.

Checks (and takes the responsibility for) the work of other designers and drafters.

Assures project and company procedures are followed.

May utilize information from vendor prints, catalogs, technical manuals, etc. to do design work.

Mentors less experienced designers.

Supervises and furnishes work for designers and other drafting personnel.  This will include coordination with all TCE offices in the US and abroad to complete work in a timely and efficient manner.    

Position will work closely with electrical engineering staff, project management staff and instrumentation discipline head as a key lead resource.

Uses time efficiently. 

Sensitive to schedule requirements.

Keeps supervisor informed of progress.

Quality assurance for personal work assignments.

Visits vendor facilities to inspect equipment for compliance with requirements. 

Visits jobsites to evaluate site, project requirements, and conditions.

Ability to make field visits, walk down, etc. 

Qualifications

Minimum of 10 years instrument design experience in the refining and chemical industries.

Experience in design of mid to large instrument projects.

Knowledge of the NEC.

Experience in the consulting engineering industry.

TWIC Card required for site

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree, an associate's degree, or relevant technical training.
