Kleen Energy Systems, located in Middletown, Connecticut, is a 620 MW combined-cycle power plant fueled by natural gas and oil. The facility features two Siemens SGT6-PAC 5000F combustion turbines and one Siemens SST6-PAC5000 steam turbine, with power delivered to the ISO New England grid through the CL&P 345 kV transmission system.
Opportunity SummaryThe Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Technician supports safe, reliable, and efficient operations at Kleen Energy Systems by maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment. This position supports the facility's Siemens combustion turbines, steam turbine, DCS, PLC, turbine controls, and electrical distribution systems through preventive and corrective maintenance while working closely with Operations and Maintenance to improve reliability, minimize downtime, and optimize plant performance.
Your scope of responsibility as IC&E Technician includes the following primary functions:- Calibrate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and install plant instrumentation and control systems, including control valves, transmitters, analyzers, motors, variable frequency drives, dampers, and associated field devices.
- Perform corrective, preventive, predictive, and emergency maintenance on plant electrical equipment, including medium-voltage switchgear, motor control centers, motors, transformers, batteries, chargers, inverters, and generator excitation systems.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize DCS, PLC, SCADA, and other plant automation systems by diagnosing faults, supporting program changes, and improving control-system performance and reliability.
- Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot the Siemens SGT6-PAC 5000F combustion turbine, SST6-PAC5000 steam turbine, and associated turbine, combustion, burner-management, protection, and condition-monitoring systems.
- Support plant testing, commissioning, system modifications, outages, and capital projects by installing equipment, verifying control functionality, and coordinating activities with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and vendors.
- Evaluate equipment performance and operating trends to identify instrumentation, controls, or electrical issues and recommend improvements that enhance plant efficiency, availability, and equipment reliability.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, calibration documentation, plant drawings, work orders, equipment databases, and vendor information while ensuring tools and test equipment remain calibrated and ready for use.
- Follow all plant safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements by identifying hazards, implementing corrective actions, and properly handling hazardous materials and regulated waste.
- Perform other duties, special projects, and technical assignments as required to support safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Kleen Energy Systems.

Working Relationships The IC&E Technician reports directly to the Sr Maintenance Supervisor and receives general direction from plant management. This role involves interfacing with contractors and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) personnel to ensure necessary support and coordination.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds.
Power plant environment that may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.
Some duties may require the use of protective equipment, which can include hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection. Fit testing for respirators may be required. Strict smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule The IC&E Technician works a standard Monday to Friday day-shift schedule. This position will require extended hours, flexible shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support plant operations and business needs and may also require callout availability. Depending on the position, on-call status may or may not apply.
Compensation This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $45 to $60 per hour, along with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
Core Qualifications and Skills - Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation and Control, Electronics Technology, Industrial Electrical Technology, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent technical training or relevant industrial or military experience will be considered.
- Experience in combined-cycle power generation or a similar industrial environment, with knowledge of plant operations, electrical maintenance, safe work practices, and applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Strong knowledge of plant electrical and instrumentation systems, including switchgear, motor control centers, motors, transformers, batteries, chargers, inverters, generator excitation systems, control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and associated field devices.
- Working knowledge of DCS, PLC, SCADA, turbine control, combustion control, burner management, boiler control, and condition-monitoring systems, with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot control-system issues.
- Demonstrated ability to install, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical, and control systems associated with combined-cycle equipment, including Siemens combustion turbines, steam turbines, HRSGs, and balance-of-plant systems.
- Proven ability to analyze equipment and control-system performance, identify root causes, and recommend improvements that enhance reliability, efficiency, availability, and equipment life.
- Effective experience collaborating with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, contractors, and vendors to safely support maintenance activities, outages, testing, commissioning, and system modifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interpret electrical drawings, schematics, logic diagrams, and technical documentation; maintain accurate maintenance and calibration records; and clearly communicate technical findings and recommendations.
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver's license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
