I&C Engineer III to join our Instrumentation & Controls Department in
Omaha, NE. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to challenging and rewarding projects supporting power generation, industrial, and energy clients.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities- Plan, schedule, and perform instrumentation and controls engineering assignments requiring independent judgment and application of engineering principles.
- Develop and review instrumentation engineering deliverables, including Instrument Indexes, Instrument Data Sheets, Loop Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Instrument Location Plans, and Specifications.
- Develop control system design deliverables including I/O Lists, Cause & Effect Matrices, Control Narratives, and Logic Diagrams.
- Support the design and implementation of Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), and related control system technologies.
- Coordinate with process, mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural disciplines to ensure integrated project execution.
- Review vendor documentation and technical proposals for instrumentation and control system equipment.
- Perform field investigations, site walks, and support startup and commissioning activities as required.
- Prepare engineering studies, technical reports, project estimates, and equipment specifications.
- Assist with control system troubleshooting and provide technical solutions during project execution.
- Evaluate and apply applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and project planning activities
QualificationsQualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- 5-10+ years of instrumentation and controls engineering experience.
- Strong understanding of instrumentation design, control systems engineering, and industrial automation.
- Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or PLC-based control systems.
- Knowledge of process instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and level measurement technologies.
- Experience developing engineering deliverables such as Instrument Indexes, I/O Lists, Control Narratives, and Instrument Data Sheets.
- Familiarity with industrial, utility, energy, power generation, manufacturing, or process facilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a collaborative engineering environment.
- Proficiency with engineering software including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and related design tools.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
- Willingness to travel periodically for client meetings, field investigations, and commissioning support.
Preferred Qualifications- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
- Experience supporting power generation facilities, including fossil, renewable, and combined-cycle power plants.
- Experience with control systems such as ABB, Emerson Ovation, Siemens T3000, Honeywell, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, or similar platforms.
- Experience with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
- Startup, commissioning, and field support experience.
- Previous EPC or consulting engineering experience.
Physical DemandsEmployee must be able to effectively communicate in person, by telephone, and electronically. Position may require standing, walking, climbing ladders or stairs, and occasional lifting of equipment or materials during site visits.
Work EnvironmentEmployee will work in a combination of office and field environments. Field assignments may occur at industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, utility stations, and power generation facilities. Exposure to varying weather conditions, elevated noise levels, and active construction environments may be required.
This Omaha version broadens the role slightly beyond gas turbine controls and aligns well with the industrial, utility, and power-generation market in Nebraska while remaining consistent with Zachry's typical Engineer III expectations.
