Chief Objective of Position The Instructional Design Coordinator for Online Learning will play an integral role in overseeing all aspects of designing, developing, and managing the build-out of an online course portfolio for the University. The key responsibilities of the Instructional Design Coordinator for Online Learning are centered on collaborating closely with faculty authors to ensure course development, delivery, and assessments enhance learning and support student success. This involves supporting faculty with the development of online lesson content and assessments using knowledge of online pedagogy, interdisciplinary research, and evidence-based best practices.
Housed in the Center for Effective Teaching and reporting to the Vice Provost, the Coordinator will manage instructional quality across Christopher Newport's online course offerings, including developing and implementing a comprehensive faculty development program for new and experienced instructors to strategically enhance their online teaching capabilities and improve student learning, while overseeing the application of best practices in online pedagogy and andragogy across all online programs.
The Coordinator will support faculty in course development and enhancement of online offerings for graduate programs, continuing education, and summer courses. The Coordinator will work with faculty and the Office of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education to identify new course opportunities and enhance ongoing online courses. The Coordinator also will ensure appropriate resources, support, and infrastructures are in place to deliver high-quality learning design that enhances faculty engagement and a connected student experience.
The Coordinator will provide an extremely high level of organization and enthusiasm, and a commitment to a collaborative approach to idea development and implementation. The Coordinator will remain abreast of learning design best practices and industry innovations as applicable to CNU's courses and programs. The Coordinator also will bring the ability to provide a data-driven strategic perspective that will allow the University to make informed decisions and best manage teaching and learning initiatives within the online portfolio.
Work Tasks 40%- Curriculum Development and Faculty Support:• Coordinates the development of an online portfolio of courses for offer in select graduate programs, summer school, and continuing education.
• Partners with senior academic leadership and faculty to establish priorities for curriculum development and delivery, including in the design, development, and/or editing of content for synchronous and asynchronous online courses.
• Collaborates with faculty and administrative colleagues to develop procedural oversight of online and continuing education programs.
• Collaborates with colleagues involved with recruitment, admissions, and student success to ensure clear communication about new and updated curricula and courses.
• Keeps abreast of new developments and research in online education and shares this information with instructors via the Center for Effective Teaching (CET).
• Acts as the project manager for courses in development to monitor progress to ensure timely delivery.
40%- Instructional Quality:• Provides general guidance to faculty based on established online learning frameworks.
• Reviews faculty-created course content and assessments and provides research-based recommendations to enhance student learning.
• Working through the Center for Effective Teaching (CET), oversees the development and implementation of a comprehensive faculty development program for new and experienced instructors related to online teaching, learning design, and program development.
• Monitors faculty satisfaction with online program features: curriculum, learning design, and other aspects of course management.
10%- Data Management and Accreditation:• Works with operational offices and institutional research to ensure online programs are compliant with course development requirements.
• Collects necessary data to support accreditation activities.
• Creates instructional quality and course management data reports for senior leadership and interprets data for strategic decision-making.
10%- Performance Management, Development, and Inclusion:• Provides a professional, client-centered, and respectful atmosphere for all online instructional and instructor needs.
• Develops and maintains very positive and professional customer service and/or relations within the office/department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees.
• Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) related to position - Advanced knowledge and skills in online learning design, digital instructional technologies, and quality assurance methodologies.

Conditions of Employment:This position may require additional hours beyond the typical 40-hour work week, to include occasional evening, night, and weekend work, and/or overnight travel, as needed to meet the business needs of the university. Remote work scheduling will be determined by the Vice Provost.
Required Education - Master's Degree in instructional design or related field, or Bachelor's degree with work experience that equates to an advanced degree
- Progressive experience in online curriculum and course design at an institution of higher education.
Additional Consideration - Education• Ph.D. in learning design or related field.
Experience Required• Progressive experience related to creating training activities for faculty teaching online.

Salary Information Salary $80,100 to $100,200 Commensurate with Education and Experience
