University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Department:Psychiatry Job Title: Inpatient Psychiatric Unit Attending Rank:Open Rank - Instructor, Sr. Instructor, Assistant, Associate, Professor Job Summary:The Inpatient Psychiatric Unit Attending will provide clinical care on the UCHealth Tower 3. The Attending will be a member of a team that covers the 40-bed unit throughout the course of the week. The team will include other inpatient psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, APPs, residents, and medical students. The Attending will oversee the evaluation, treatment, and discharge of their patients during their stay on the unit. They will address their psychiatric and medical conditions as appropriate for their stay. The Attending will collaborate with trainees and carry their own direct care patients. The Attending may also provide ECT for treatment of refractory depression on the adjacent ECT Suite.
Key Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Providing inpatient level of care on the psychiatric unit from admission until discharge.
- Developing an appropriate treatment plan, monitoring progress towards goals, and determining disposition upon discharge for the patients under their care.
- This position requires familiarity with the use of emergency medications, seclusion/restraint procedures, pharmacology for acute agitation, risk assessment, and treatment of substance intoxication and withdrawal.
- The inpatient psychiatrist should be comfortable managing comorbid medical conditions in collaboration with inpatient medicine/surgery attendings as appropriate.
- Providing ECT treatment if desired.
- Actively Contributes to Academic Advancement of his/her discipline and builds relationships with other departments and campuses
- Keeps apprised of the latest developments in field, both academically and through applied skills
Work Location:Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:
Instructor/Sr. Instructor/Assistant Professor:- 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
- CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License
- Board Eligible or Certified in Psychiatry.
Associate Professor:- 4-7 years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
- CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License
- Board Eligible or Certified in Psychiatry.
Professor:- 7+ years of related clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.
- CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License
- Board Eligible or Certified in Psychiatry.

Ranks of Instructor and Senior Instructor will be on the TTE track and given an opportunity to switch tracks, if needed, at a later time.
Preferred Qualifications:- Ability to interpret age specific developmental, physiologic, and unique care needs by assessment and by observation of care delivery.
- Experience in making psychiatric diagnoses and managing psychiatric disorders.
- Experience working effectively on a psychiatric behavioral health team.
- Experience in telepsychiatry.
- Experience in consultation-liaison and/or emergency psychiatry.
- Completion of a consultation-liaison psychiatry fellowship.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Prior experience working with medically complex patients.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team model with colleagues, medical specialists, and trainees across disciplines.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Interest in developing a collaborative program of research in specialty medical settings, although research interest is not required for this position.
- Demonstrates culturally accountable mental health practices and values.
- Knows and or has knowledge and understands cultural differences.
- Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds as well as various skill levels and value systems.
- Applies sound clinical experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
