THE ROLEThis IT Supervisor will supervise information technology staff and oversee the delivery of technology services supporting CTECS schools and administrative operations. This role will focus predominantly on providing technology leadership and support to CTECS schools geographically situated in the western part of Connecticut. Responsibilities include network and end-user support, educational technology platforms, one-to-one student devices, cybersecurity, technology projects, and coordination with school administrators, educators, vendors, and Department of Administrative Services/Bureau of Information Technology Solutions personnel.
The Information Technology Supervisor will supervise IT staff and oversee technology services supporting CTECS schools and administrative locations.
Responsibilities include: - Plan, assign, supervise, and evaluate the work of IT staff; establish priorities and provide training, coaching, and technical guidance.
- Oversee the support, maintenance, security, and performance of CTECS networks, systems, applications, computers, classroom technology, telecommunications, and related infrastructure.
- Manage educational and administrative platforms, including PowerSchool, PowerTeacher, ClassLink, Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, and other CTECS applications.
- Oversee the one-to-one student device program, including configuration, deployment, inventory, repair, replacement, security, collection, and disposal.
- Monitor help-desk operations, service levels, escalated incidents, recurring problems, system availability, and customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate technology projects, upgrades, migrations, integrations, testing, and deployments while minimizing disruptions to instruction and school operations.
- Ensure compliance with State of Connecticut and CTECS technology, cybersecurity, access-control, records-retention, acceptable-use, and FERPA requirements.
- Maintain disaster-recovery, data-backup, business-continuity, and incident-response procedures for critical educational and administrative systems.
- Collaborate with school administrators, educators, CTECS leadership, DAS/BITS personnel, vendors, and other stakeholders to identify needs and implement effective technology solutions.
- Manage technology purchasing, licensing, contracts, inventory, standardization, lifecycle replacement, and vendor performance.
- Support technology readiness for classrooms, technical shops, student assessments, admissions, summer programs, and school-year opening and closing activities.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend strategies that advance technology-enabled learning, digital equity, security, and operational efficiency.
- Travel to CTECS locations as necessary to oversee projects, assess technology needs, address escalated issues, and coordinate with school leadership.
- Perform related duties as required.
PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK) In a state agency major Information Technology (IT) operational environment this class is accountable for supervising staff and overseeing the planning, analysis, design, selection, installation and implementation of information systems and applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE Nine (9) years of experience in information technology (IT) operations, programming, systems/software development or IT related support area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCEOne (1) year of the General Experience must have been performing advanced technical level duties or as a working supervisor in such areas as: designing, configuring and implementing complex networks; configuring, installing and upgrading host based applications packages and host and/or operating system software; system software/application development, performing any closely related advanced technical function.
NOTE: For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of an Information Technology Analyst 3.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED - College training in management information systems, computer science or information technology related area may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
- A Master's degree in management information systems, computer science or electrical engineering may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience working as part of an information technology team in a school environment.
