This role partners closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Tool Room, production supervisors, and hourly operations personnel to improve product flow, quality, safety, cost, and manufacturability.
Key Responsibilities- Create, review, and maintain manufacturing routers and bills of materials (BOMs) for engineer-to-order and configured product orders.
- Develop and implement process engineering changes, including:
- Updating routers and operation sequences.
- Adding or revising material sequencing by operation.
- Loading and maintaining control-cycle records.
- Establishing and updating work centers, labor standards, and production system data.
- Coordinating implementation with Product Engineering and Operations.
- Partner daily with production personnel and supervisors to define, document, and improve assembly instructions, work methods, and standardized processes.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing, assembly, material, tooling, and workflow issues; provide timely support to supervisors, set-up personnel, and production teams.
- Maintain BOMs, routers, and work orders when material substitutions, variances, engineering changes, or process updates occur.
- Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including assembly instructions, process layouts, work instructions, visual aids, maintenance work orders, and Tool Room orders.
- Design and develop assembly jigs, fixtures, templates, and related production tooling, including layouts and technical drawings.
- Use AutoCAD and Solid Edge to produce and revise digital engineering drawings, tooling designs, fixture layouts, and manufacturing documentation.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering on prototype light fixtures, pilot builds, design-for-manufacturability considerations, and transition-to-production activities.
- Support new-product introduction by validating routings, BOMs, work instructions, fixtures, tooling, material flow, and labor requirements prior to production launch.
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, productivity, waste reduction, and continuous improvement.
- Analyze manufacturing processes and recommend improvements to labor content, cycle time, capacity, cost, ergonomics, quality, and material flow.
- Assist with development of capital-equipment justifications, including process requirements, cost-benefit analyses, capacity needs, and anticipated operational impact.
- Apply methods engineering and time-study principles to establish and improve labor standards, systems, procedures, and manufacturing processes.
- Contribute to assigned cross-functional engineering, operational-improvement, and strategic-planning projects.
- Train and coach hourly and salaried employees, as needed, on new processes, work instructions, tools, equipment, and standard operating procedures.
- Follow all company safety, quality, environmental, and compliance requirements.
