Airbus Aerosystems Kinstonis looking for an Industrial Assembly Engineer to join our Engineering department based in Kinston, NC.

Your Working Environment:

The Airbus Aerosystems Kinston facility sits at the forefront of aerospace manufacturing, specializing in the production of large, advanced composite aerostructures. Our team builds critical components for the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 XWB, including the composite center fuselage and wing spar.

Your Challenges

Specify industrial jigs, tools and machinery for the industrial evolution: 35%
  • Define and prepare specification for Jigs & Toolings related to assembly of parts and components
  • Prepare Technical Documentation for Call for Tender and support in the down selection of the supplier
  • Analyse the technical capability of suppliers
  • Analyse the technical Airbus standards to prepare the best in class solution for local purpose
  • Ensure that the specification process and the technical down selection is in line with the Airbus rules and regulations


Support Production on critical disturbances related to assembly technologies and processes: 30%
  • Technical guidance and problem solving on specific technical issues
  • Involve the wider network (Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing Engineering) to effectively solve the technical issues
  • Run PPS (Practical Problem Solving) on specific shop floor issues according to Airbus standards
  • Define and implement short term and long term fix for issues related to Assembly technologies or processes (eg. drilling or fastening)
  • Ensure the involvement of relevant Airbus specialists & Experts (from all across the world) to contribute to the elimination of critical disturbances


Development and implementation of new assembly processes and technologies: 30%
  • Create local technology strategy in line with global technology standards for drilling, fastening, jigs & tools for assembly and measurement
  • Develop local solutions based on customer needs and airbus standards
  • Implement new assembly processes and technologies on the shopfloor
  • Align local assembly strategy with the central technology strategy
  • Ensure the involvement of relevant Airbus specialists & Experts (from all across the world) to contribute to the strategy definition and deployment
  • Take part in weekly team meetings with the transnational Assembly Technology Team


Other duties as assigned: 5%
  • Be active part of a transnational team participating to regular team meetings and SQCDP meetings
  • Participate in team workshops (once or twice a year)
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager


Your Boarding Pass
  • Bachelor degree level in Manufacturing Engineering or similar
  • Knowledge in specifying tools & machinery
  • 8 years of experience in a related role
  • Travel Required: 10% Domestic and International/Authorized to work in the US

  • Knowledge of relevant rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, engineering and/or assembly processes:

  • Ability to communicate with stakeholders at different levels on technical and business matters
  • Degree in mechanical engineering or similar


Physical Requirements
  • Onsite or remote: 60 % (onsite) / 40 % (remote) possible
  • Vision: able to read computer screens and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings. This is part of the daily activities of the candidate
  • Hearing: able to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Communication: DAILY able to communicate with colleagues and in meetings, deliver information and participate in communications. This is part of the daily activities of the candidate (e.g. regular team meetings, telephone calls with different stakeholder, etc.)
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts. This is part of the daily activities of the candidate (e.g. regular team meetings, telephone calls with different stakeholder, etc.)
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. Carrying equipment is sometimes needed but only relevant during shop trial phases or implementation phases on the shop floor (not on a daily basis).
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs. Lifting equipment is sometimes needed but only relevant during shop trial phases or implementation phases on the shop floor (not on a daily basis).
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools. Pushing/Pulling equipment is sometimes needed but only relevant during shop trial phases or implementation phases on the shop floor (not on a daily basis).
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer. This is part of the daily activities of the candidate (e.g. regular team meetings, telephone calls with different stakeholder, etc.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving. Squatting / Kneeling is sometimes needed but only relevant during shop trial phases or implementation phases on the shop floor (not on a daily basis).
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor. This is part of the daily activities of the candidate (e.g. SQCDP meetings, shopfloor meetings, etc.)
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice. Travelling can happen based upon request (to approx a max of 10% of the job)
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces. This is part of the daily activities of the candidate (e.g. SQCDP meetings, shopfloor meetings, etc.)
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to, Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Respirators/Masks, and/or Protective Gloves as required by site and/or customer site
  • Administrative position only PPE required: Steel-toed shoes are required for all shop floor visit, appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor.
