Description of Job About the Work UnitThis unit, Denver Metro North I-270 Project, exists to support the 270 Corridor Improvements Project during all design and construction phases. This is a multi-year project that is located on the highly visible I-270 Corridor and is on the Region's 10-year plan and is both a Regional and Statewide priority. This project is expected to be the largest project that the CDOT Region 1 North office has ever delivered.
About the PositionAs the I-270 Construction Engineer (PE I), you will report to the I-270 Corridor Improvement Resident Engineer and provides construction lead oversight in project level communications with the construction delivery team for I-270 Corridor Improvements Project preconstruction and construction activities. This position will manage the construction oversight of the I-270 Corridor Improvements Project; ensure that all processes are in compliance with State and Federal standards; in addition to developing and managing the support processes from contract award to final documentation submittal. This position requires the candidate to have a Professional Engineer's license to approve and stamp as-constructed plans.
Your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following- Oversee all aspects of an assigned project during the construction phase to ensure construction and construction activity are compliant with plans, specifications, standards, policies, procedures, laws and regulations, including all required documentation.
- Train, advise, assign and supervise subordinates who perform construction related tasks.
- Coordinate with the public, local, state, federal entities, businesses, railroads, utility, special interest groups, and all project stake holders, regarding construction activities, construction conflicts, and requests for information on projects.
- Evaluate materials, equipment, and systems for their acceptability for incorporation in a construction project.
- Document, manage and prepare reports of project progress, project budgets, and project plan changes.
- Monitor means and methods for work performed by Contractor to ensure that work is acceptable.
- Track contractor construction progress via the Contractor's critical path method schedule (CPM).
- Initiate, prepare, design changes, negotiate, and authorize contract modification orders to remedy the problems.
- Ascertain the validity of contractor requests or disputes for additional compensation not specifically governed by contract.
- Compile all relevant documentation, formulate and authorize final settlements.
- Analyze the feasibility of contractor's construction methods and schedules in conjunction with the project's complexities, anticipated conflicts, and problems to ensure successful completion of the project, and prevent potential disputes and lawsuits.
- Initiate, prepare, design, negotiate, obtain approvals for, and authorize legally binding contract modification orders to remedy conditions encountered beyond the scope of the original contract.
- Monitor Contractor compliance with all equal employment opportunities laws, safety regulations, state, local and federal ordinances etc. to ensure 100% compliance.
- Respond to complaints, review contractor payroll, OJT and DBE documents for compliance.
- Issues written directives, change orders, schedule modifications, and CDOT instructions to the Contractor.
- Serve as CDOT representative and liaison to public, local, state, and federal entities, businesses, and other parties involved in design project activities.
- Maintain PE license in good standing, and obtain TCS, Erosion Control Supervisor/Water Quality certifications.
- Provide input to design teams and value engineering studies concerning constructability.
- Monitor contractor's compliance with use and storage of onsite contaminants or suspected contaminants in compliance with applicable permits and regulations.
- A valid driver's license is required to operate a CDOT vehicle to perform some of these duties.
Work Environment- Your schedule will primarily be 8:00 am - 5:00 pm work hours, Monday-Friday, but we are flexible to meet your work/life balance needs while ensuring CDOT business needs are met.

Preferred QualificationsTheexceptional applicantwill be an experienced civil engineer will possess the proven ability or accomplishment in the following:

- For the Engineer-in-Training III classification level, be within one year of obtaining Professional Engineer license;

- Knowledge of local issues and concerns in the program area;
- Knowledge and experience with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Resident Engineer, Area Engineer, CDOT Construction Manual, AASHTO Green Book, AASHTO Highway Safety Manual, specification for Road and Bridge Construction, as well as federal and state regulations;
- Progressively responsible experience in project or program management experience, including the ability to successfully plan, organize, and manage multiple, concurrent projects or tasks of varying complexities;
- Experience managing and overseeing contractors and consultants;
- Ability to assign work and direct project staff;
- Experience managing budgets to ensure cost effectiveness of projects or programs;
