Full Job Description
STV has an exciting opportunity for a Hydraulics Engineer to join our growing Atlantic practice. This hybrid position may be located in our Columbia or North Charleston, South Carolina offices. Consideration to other South Carolina locations will be given for highly qualified candidates.

The successful candidate will:
  • Independently prepare Storm Water Management Reports and culvert/bridge hydrologic & hydraulic studies
  • Independently prepare and submit stormwater permit documentation through various agencies
  • Participate in project development meetings
  • Serve as the lead drainage engineer and Engineer of Record on projects as directed by senior staff.
  • Provide professional design services for transportation improvement projects, including storm drains, culverts, storm water management, green stormwater, ESD/LID facilities, and erosion and sediment control.
  • Coordinate design development and assist with technical direction of junior staff
  • Achieve quality deliverables within the established schedule and budget
  • Independently prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
  • Establishing working relationships and interface with client technical staff and project managers
  • Mentoring supporting water resource design staff
  • The candidate will be independently designing and mentoring junior staff for successful project outcomes.   • Responsibilities include:
  • Using hydrologic and hydraulic software such as Geopak Drainage, StormCAD, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS modeling. Experience with XP-SWMM or similar is a plus.
  • Using CADD and mapping software including MicroStation, AutoCAD, and ESRI ArcGIS. Openroads Designer and/or Civil 3D experience is a plus.
  • Submit NPDES permits and meet MS4 requirements of municipalities and other government entities
  • Serve as a Discipline Lead or Project Manager on Projects of varying size and complexity. Typical projects include roadway, bridge, standalone drainage/culvert projects, as well as civil-site projects.
  • May assist with other administrative and technical duties.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance of design with all applicable codes and regulations, providing the seal and signature of the professional engineer when required by statute or contract.


Required Skills:
  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in Engineering. A MS degree in Engineering is a plus (Civil, Biological, Agricultural, or another related discipline)
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Strong inter-personal skills for client and other engineering discipline interaction
  • Candidate should possess knowledge and experience of SCDOT and Local government design and permitting requirements. NCDOT or GDOT experience is a plus. Alternative Delivery experience or freight rail experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to drive a car and have own transportation
  • Lead small to large Civil projects.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience of Water Resources and Storm Water Design Engineering - design of storm drains, culverts, storm water management, BMPs, erosion and sediment control, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and Floodplain studies, and environmental permitting, along with cost estimating
  • PE licensure in South Carolina is required. Multi-state licensure is a plus.
  • Water and sewer design experience is a plus, including relocation plans for transportation projects, and/or site utilities.


Compensation Range:
$112,253.66 - $128,289.89
