Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test HVAC systems to verify functionality, including chillers and cooling towers.
  • Repair and replace defective HVAC equipment, components, or wiring as needed.
  • Conduct routine maintenance to identify and prevent potential equipment failures.
  • Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting of commercial HVAC systems independently.
  • Lead warranty service applications to ensure HVAC functionality post-repair.
  • Educate customers on proper equipment use and maintenance schedules.
  • Supervise and mentor apprentice technicians through hands-on training and support.
  • Document and report billing, inventory, and other essential information accurately and timely.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Conduct jobsite hazard assessments and adhere to safety policies and standards.

Full Job Description
HVAC Journeyman

Location: Ottawa, ON - Onsite

Your Responsibilities:
  • Perform service of equipment including inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality including but not limited to chillers, fan coils, water source heat pumps, applied air handling units, rooftop units, cooling towers, and condenser tubes
  • Repair and replace defective equipment, components, or wiring
  • Maintain and inspect equipment to identify potential problems to prevent premature and unexpected breakdowns or callbacks
  • Perform intermediate and advanced independent diagnostics, troubleshooting, pipefitting, and brazing of commercial HVAC equipment
  • Conduct warranty service application by independently inspecting and testing systems to verify functionality of all commercial HVAC equipment
  • Educate technical and non-technical customers on proper use of equipment, maintenance schedule, and operating manual usage
  • Lead and participate in the rebuild and retrofit of commercial HVAC level units including the direction of apprentice level technicians through hands-on demonstration of the necessary steps
  • Record and report billing, inventory, timecards, technician tip reports, and other articles as required and in a timely manner
  • Download programs into commercial HVAC equipment and Micro controllers and analyze chiller trend data to ensure optimal performance
  • Participate in available training through regional technician trainers, and off-site learning modules
  • Maintain all required certifications and continue to develop new skill sets
  • Ensure standards, policies, procedures, and maintenance of a clean work area are always upheld
  • Complete jobsite hazard assessment prior to initiating service and adhere to Daikin Applied and customer safety policies and OSHA guidelines


Your Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Associates Degree or technical school HVAC certification (preferred)
  • 5+ years of related experience with increasing responsibility or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Accepted as Journeyman by the union
  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
  • Required license(s) and/or training card as required by local law district
  • Rotational Emergency Call Support availability as required
  • Previous experience in mentoring less experienced technicians
  • EPA approved Universal Technician Certification (preferred)
  • OSHA 10 certification (preferred)
  • Current first aid / CPR card (preferred)


Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position

The expected hourly rate for this position is $63.33 in ON. The rate is subject to the amount outlined in the CBA and could change based on the level offered. Benefits are provided through a local labor union and aligned to the CBA.
