Job Requirements

The University of Maryland Midtown Campus is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner to join our Direct Care Team. This is an outstanding opportunity to practice in a dynamic academic community hospital where you'll work alongside experienced hospitalists, specialists, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional inpatient care.

As a Hospitalist NP, you'll practice at the top of your license, caring for a diverse patient population while coordinating treatment plans, improving patient outcomes, and ensuring safe, seamless transitions of care. What You'll Do

As a valued member of our Direct Care Team, you will:

  • Perform detailed patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and complex medical conditions in collaboration with attending physicians.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic studies to develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medications and implement evidence-based plans of care.
  • Perform bedside procedures within your scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with physicians, residents, nurses, case managers, and consultants to ensure coordinated, high-quality patient care.
  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and communicate treatment plans with the healthcare team.
  • Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges to promote efficient patient flow and reduce length of stay.
  • Facilitate timely specialty consultations and community referrals when appropriate.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
  • Promote disease prevention, wellness, and health maintenance.
  • Advocate for patients by ensuring they understand their care plan and available treatment options.
  • Address each patient's physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs by connecting them with appropriate hospital resources, including palliative care and pain management services.
  • Utilize evidence-based practice and clinical pathways to improve quality and patient safety.
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes and the overall patient experience.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required
  • Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Current Maryland Nurse Practitioner license
  • National certification in specialty area
  • DEA and CDS eligibility
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification (required for inpatient practice)
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Registered Nurse experience

  • Previous inpatient or hospital medicine experience
  • Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
