Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Hospitalist provides comprehensive, inpatient care for adult and/or pediatric patients within the hospital. This role includes daily rounding on assigned patients, managing acute and chronic medical conditions, coordinating multidisciplinary care, and ensuring smooth transitions from admission to discharge. The Hospitalist may also assume admitting responsibilities, collaborating with referring providers and other hospital services to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and the ability to work in a dynamic hospital environment are essential for success in this role. 12-hour shifts (7A-7P or 7P-7A) with dedicated admitter shift 9a-9p. Hospitalists serve as the primary attending physicians for adult inpatients, managing a diverse case mix while partnering closely with consulting specialists, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary care teams to deliver high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered care.

Average census: 14-17 patients

Manage acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and complex medical cases

No ICU

Diverse case mix across a regional referral center

Access to a wide range of specialists: Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Neurology, ENT, GI, Nephrology, General Surgery, and Vascular Surgery

ED physicians respond to hospital airways and codes

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school

Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Significant standing, sitting, bending, and some lifting; good manual dexterity, vision and hearing required.

Must be able to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues in a fast-paced office environment.

Must be able to multi-task and handle a variety of issues at one time.

Nocturnist position with night-shift schedule, including weekends and holidays as needed.

Rotating or fixed schedules depending on service needs. Work performed in the in-patient setting; frequent walking, standing, and responding to patient care needs.

Exposure to acutely ill patients and high-stress situations is expected.
