Hookup Construction Engineer II- The Hookup Construction Engineer II will lead the daily operations of a technical team supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of utility and tool hook-up activities within high-tech semiconductor construction projects. This role is both technical and supervisory in nature, with time dedicated to direct leadership, workforce coordination, and performance oversight. Located at FAB21 in Phoenix, this role operates within TSMC's global Hook-Up Shared Services model and will directly supervise team members and subcontractors supporting projects within and beyond Arizona-including but not limited to, supporting Japan and Europe.
Responsibilities:
- Supervisory / Leadership:
- Provide direct supervision and day-to-day direction to a team of engineers, technicians, or contractor personnel within the Hook-Up function.
- Manage work assignments, staffing levels, shift coordination, and performance tracking to meet project milestones.
- Conduct coaching, training, and technical mentorship to promote team growth and alignment to engineering standards.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning activities in partnership with leadership and HR.
- Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and compliance protocols across the team.
- Support budget and resource planning as it pertains to labor, tools, and material allocation.
- Technical / Project:
- Coordinate hook-up construction activities for mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), high-purity, and process utility systems.
- Review and interpret engineering documents, layouts, and schematics for tool hook-up and facility infrastructure.
- Support installation, testing, and commissioning of utilities (electrical, gas, chemical, water, etc.) to semiconductor equipment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Facilities, Tool Install, Quality, ESH, Contractors) to resolve issues and maintain project alignment.
- Lead or participate in construction walk-downs, punch list closeout, and handover readiness assessments.
- Drive continuous improvement in hook-up standards, documentation, and international knowledge-sharing.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
- Education:
- Bachelor degree in Science, arts, or a related field -OR- 3+ years' experience in semiconductor related or industrial setting and 2+ years in a construction leadership or supervisory role.
- Technical Skills:
- Experience in complex, fast-paced construction projects-semiconductor or cleanroom environments preferred.
- Proficient in interpreting construction drawings, P&IDs, and specifications related to tool install and process systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams in high-volume and high-precision work environments.
- Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
- Presentation skills
- Proficient in MS Office
- Physical Requirements:
- Capable of lifting materials, working on ladders/lifts, and standing for long periods of time
- Training:
Preferred Qualifications: - Familiarity with global construction or international project exposure.
- Strong understanding of semiconductor utility requirements and tool hook-up complexity.
- Experience working in a multinational or corporate matrix structure.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and drive team-based problem solving.
Shift expectations:- All Hookup Construction Engineers II may be required to work a Compressed Work Week (4-day on, 3-day off, 3-day on, 4-day off), and may be required to work night shift on a rotational basis.
- Scheduled night shifts and weekend on-call rotations in a 24/7 high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Night shift rotations are expected to be no more than 4 months per calendar year.
- Standard work hours: Monday through Friday
