Histology Team Leader to join our team at
Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA.Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6am - 2:30pm
Job Responsibilities- Assist the supervisor with the day to day operations of the Histology department
- Send daily, weekly and monthly productions reports to management
- Assist with the training of new hires and the development of current employees
- Keep supervisor informed of group progress, problems, employee performance and any significant factors affecting assigned responsibilities
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to SOPs
- Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
- Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
- Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
- Assist with processing of specimens when needed
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
Minimum Qualifications- Associate's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology
- 3 years of experience or more as a Histotechnician/Histotechnologist
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
- 3 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience
- Histology and/or ASCP certifications
- 6 months or more of supervising or leading a team
Additional Job Standards- In lieu of education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirements
- Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
- Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
- Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
- Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
- Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment
- Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
**Pay Range: $39.50 - $54.00 per hour
All job offers will be based on a candidate's skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
