Description

GPI is seeking a Highway Project Engineer to join our growing Long Island operations in Melville, NY. We seek an ideal candidate with a high level of energy, a great work ethic, and pride in providing eminent engineering solutions. This is an excellent opportunity to work for a well-established, multi-disciplined engineering firm specializing in the design and construction of roadways and bridges. Responsibilities:
  • Apply engineering principles pertaining to and in support of the detailed plans and construction documents for roadways under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Develop drawings, technical specifications, and cost estimates
  • Actively mentor and provide guidance to less experienced staff
  • Progress and evaluate design details for roadway projects, including pavement condition and repair, ADA compliant sidewalk and pedestrian ramp design, signing and pavement markings, complete streets evaluations, highway alignments and profiles, and drainage
  • Utilize MicroStation and/or AutoCAD to develop design plans
  • Interface with other technical disciplines (Bridges/ /Signals)


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • New York State Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus
  • 8+ years of meaningful experience related to roadway engineering design
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn and grow professionally
  • Prepare design criteria using relevant codes and standards
  • Competent use of relevant software: MicroStation and AutoCAD, including Open Roads Design and Civil 3D
  • Preliminary and final design plan production and construction cost estimating experience
  • Familiarity with MUTCD, AASHTO, and NYSDOT / County / City Standards
  • Good writing and communication skills is a plus


Requirements

  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
