The Senior Lead Administrator for Hexagon Smart 3D (Octave Forte 3D) is responsible for administering, configuring, and sustaining the Hexagon Smart 3D platform to support reliable project execution, high-quality engineering data, and effective digital delivery for nuclear power generation projects.

This role requires strong Mechanical (Piping and Equipment) discipline experience and a practical understanding of equipment, piping, supports, catalogs, specifications, reference data, drawing configuration, and deliverable workflows. The administrator will maintain project standards, support model configuration, resolve complex system issues, and enable consistent use of Smart 3D across project teams.

The position also supports automation, utilities, custom reports, SQL/data extracts, integration with related SmartPlant applications, software upgrades, user support, documentation, and continuous improvement activities that strengthen administration efficiency and design team performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain Hexagon Smart 3D environments, including project setup, model databases, user access, roles, permissions, configuration, scheduled services, backups, audits, and troubleshooting.
  • Support Mechanical discipline execution in Smart 3D, including mechanical equipment, piping, piping supports, catalogs, specifications, reference data, isometric setup, drawing configuration, and deliverable requirements.
  • Configure and maintain project standards, naming conventions, plant breakdown structures, hierarchy rules, graphic rules, label rules, view styles, templates, and repeatable workflows to support consistent project execution.
  • Manage catalog and reference data activities, including bulk loading, validation, data quality checks, specification updates, component data, custom attributes, and alignment with project and discipline standards.
  • Develop and support Smart 3D utilities, automation routines, custom reports, SQL queries, data extracts, validation checks, and productivity tools to improve administration efficiency and design team performance.
  • Apply programming and scripting experience, such as VB.NET, SQL, XML, or comparable Smart 3D customization methods, to support custom symbols, support configuration, report development, data migration, and engineering automation needs.
  • Configure and support Smart 3D drawing production, reporting environments, orthographic deliverables, isometric generation, Isogen configuration, and Interop workflows used for design review and downstream project execution.
  • Support integration of Smart 3D with SmartPlant Foundation, Smart P&ID, Smart Instrumentation, Smart Electrical, design review tools, and other enterprise engineering systems.
  • Lead or support software installations, upgrades, patches, hotfixes, license coordination, testing, performance monitoring, and issue resolution in collaboration with IT, project teams, vendors, and client stakeholders.
  • Provide advanced user support for modeling, reference data, database connectivity, drawing generation, reporting, integration, and system behavior issues; serve as an escalation point for complex Smart 3D administration matters.
  • Maintain administration documentation, configuration records, user guides, issue logs, standards, and training material to support repeatable execution, knowledge transfer, and long-term platform sustainability.

  • 10+ years in engineering design systems, including hands-on Hexagon Smart 3D administration in project environments.
  • Strong Mechanical discipline knowledge of equipment, piping, supports, specifications, isometrics, plant layout, model hierarchy, and deliverable workflows.
  • Advanced experience configuring Smart 3D for project setup and configuration.
  • Working knowledge of SQL Server for connectivity, troubleshooting, data extraction, validation, reporting, backups, restores, and administration support.
  • Programming or scripting experience with VB.NET, SQL, XML, or similar methods for custom symbols, piping supports, utilities, automation, reports, data migration, and productivity tools.
  • Experience supporting power generation or other highly regulated infrastructure projects.
  • Prior Lead or Senior Administrator role supporting Hexagon SmartPlant platforms.
