Full Job Description
Health & Safety Manager
As Kuehne+Nagel continues to expand its hyperscale operations across the U.S., we are looking for a National Manager Health & Safety, Hyperscale to help shape how health and safety is delivered across this growing area of our business.
This is a highly visible, hands-on role supporting complex warehousing and technology-focused operations where large equipment, heavy materials, construction activity, contractors and operational teams can all be working within the same environment. You will work closely with site teams and leadership to assess risk, strengthen existing controls and develop practical health and safety programs that can scale across our hyperscale network.
With multiple hyperscale locations already operational and additional sites at various stages of development, you will join the business at an exciting point of growth and help establish the health and safety practices that support these operations now and into the future.
The preferred location for this position is the Columbus, Ohio area, close to our existing hyperscale operations. The position will provide national coverage and is expected to require approximately 40% travel initially, with travel requirements potentially reducing as the operations mature.
How you create impact
37 Lead and continuously strengthen health and safety programs across Kuehne+Nagel's U.S. hyperscale operations.
37 Work directly with local QSHE and operational teams to understand risks, validate existing controls and implement practical improvements.
37 Assess new and existing facilities, identify health and safety gaps and proactively develop solutions.
37 Develop and implement procedures, risk controls and tools for complex operational activities involving warehousing, specialized material handling, heavy equipment and crane operations.
37 Provide health and safety oversight in environments where warehousing, contractor and construction activities may be taking place simultaneously.
37 Support operational readiness as new locations move through construction, startup and operational phases.
37 Partner with contractors and subcontractors to help ensure appropriate safety controls are established and maintained.
37 Conduct site visits, inspections and audits to verify controls are effective and consistently applied.
37 Support the investigation of significant incidents and near misses, identify root causes and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
37 Coach and support local QSHE Managers and their teams, helping build consistent health and safety capability across our hyperscale network.
37 Develop programs and processes that can be applied consistently as our operations continue to grow.
37 Partner across operations, QSHE and other stakeholders to create a strong, proactive safety culture.
37 Maintain a strong understanding of applicable OSHA requirements, particularly general industry standards, and translate those requirements into effective operational practices
What we would like you to bring
37 Strong health and safety experience within warehousing, distribution, logistics or a comparable operational environment.
37 Demonstrated ability to assess an operating facility, identify health and safety risks and implement practical solutions.
37 Strong working knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards (29 CFR 1910).
37 Experience supporting construction and contractor activities within an active operational environment.
37 Experience developing and implementing health and safety programs, procedures and controls, rather than solely administering established programs.
37 Exposure to industrial environments, cranes, rigging, heavy equipment, specialized material handling or other high-risk operational activities is highly desirable.
37 The ability to work effectively in complex environments where operational, construction and contractor activities may occur simultaneously.
37 Strong leadership and influencing skills with the ability to build relationships across frontline teams, operational leaders, contractors and senior stakeholders.
37 The confidence and judgment to challenge unsafe practices and intervene when appropriate.
37 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and managing risk.
37 The ability to support multiple locations and priorities in a fast-moving, growing environment.
37 Degree qualified, preferably in Health & Safety or a related field.
37 Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP or relevant crane/safety certifications are preferred.
37 Previous hyperscale or data-center experience is beneficial, but candidates with strong, relevant warehousing Health & Safety experience are encouraged to apply.
