Full Job Description

The Head of Quality Control is responsible for overall management of product & shop floor quality control including incoming goods inspection, in-process inspections, and machine final inspections and responsible for leading the quality inspectors and quality assurance representatives.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead quality control and quality assurance teams to execute business improvement efforts and projects and lead and develop the teams conducting incoming goods and in-process inspections using various inspection methods (e.g., via CMM, via hand tools, via final inspection)
  • Identify quality-related issues and challenges, prepare data and conduct data analysis, measure and validate results, successfully implement solutions, and develop control plans to ensure continuation of improvements from design to end-of-life while ensuring all project documentation is maintained accurately
  • Develop department goals, strategies, and concepts to be in line with TUS and TRUMPF group goals and then plan an execute resulting action items
  • Establish and improve standard procedures within operations (e.g., sheet metal, final assembly) to further improve quality processes as well as validate their effectiveness and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 guidelines
  • Develop, monitor, and report key figures (KPIs) for quality, communicate results to team and management, implement necessary actions to ensure performance expectations are being met, and visualize within areas of operations to ensure product quality prior to customer delivery,
  • Supervise, coach, mentor, and support development of all staff in quality control and quality assurance teams in accordance with TRUMPF policies and principles and on-board and train new employees
  • Provide expert-level quality knowledge (including knowledge of ISO 9001 specifications, machine specifications, product design, documentation methods, etc. and ability to anticipate problem areas) and understand global benchmarks for quality performance to set aggressive targets for improvements
  • Solicit input on a regular basis from functional counterparts and incorporate into quality strategy
  • Manage new supplier qualification in coordination with purchasing and requesting department
  • Supplier development (Q-meetings, audits, etc.), management concerning all quality problems, and performance tracking including systematic follow-up on quality problems to ensure verification of effectiveness (both internally and externally with suppliers)



Experience & Education

  • Five to ten years' previous experience in quality assurance, quality control, or quality engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, ability to work under pressure, strong analytical and conceptual skills, and high self-confidence are a must.
  • Must be organized, flexible, must take initiative and have the ability to work independently as well as on a team. Must be familiar with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Experience with SAP, understanding of manufacturing methods and procedures, (e.g., lean manufacturing initiatives), and basic CAD experience strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required.

Pay Range: $89,610 to $126,690, plus leadership bonus
