Role:We are hiring a
Head of Infrastructure in Engineering, Product & Data (EPD), reporting to our Sr. Director of Engineering. This leader will own the foundation every Function product runs on: Site Reliability Engineering and the infrastructure platform, including databases, compute, containers, networking, and cross-service and VPC communication, across Function Health, Ezra, Suppco, and Getlabs.
Function is moving from a single-market product into its next stage of growth, including international expansion. This role will design the long-term infrastructure architecture to support that: multi-region deployment, data residency, latency, and compliance boundaries. You will also set the reliability and cost standards (SLOs, on-call, incident response) that let us scale confidently as the member base and the number of businesses on the platform grow.
This is a hands-on leadership role, not a pure people-management seat. You will lead the Infrastructure team while staying close enough to the technology to evaluate tradeoffs across infrastructure and deployment yourself.
What makes this compelling: You will have end-to-end ownership of the platform at a company with real scale, a fresh Series B, and a mission that matters. You will shape architecture decisions that will last for years, unify infrastructure across a growing family of acquired companies, and build the foundation for global expansion in a regulated, high-trust domain.
Key Responsibilities:- Own the infrastructure platform end to end. Lead SRE and the infrastructure platform (databases, compute, containers, networking, and cross-service/VPC communication) across FH, Ezra, Suppco, and Getlabs, with the outcome of a secure, reliable, and consistent foundation for every product team.
- Architect for global scale. Define and drive the long-term architecture evolution for international expansion, including multi-region topology, data residency, latency, and compliance boundaries, so new markets can launch without re-platforming.
- Set and enforce reliability standards. Establish SLOs, error budgets, on-call practices, and incident response and postmortem processes, with the outcome of measurably higher availability and faster recovery.
- Drive cost efficiency at scale. Build visibility into infrastructure spend, make informed build, buy, and consolidate decisions, and keep unit costs healthy as usage grows.
- Unify infrastructure across the Function family. Align infrastructure practices, tooling, and networking across acquired companies, reducing duplication and risk while preserving delivery speed.
- Lead and grow the Infrastructure team. Hire, coach, and set direction for infrastructure and SRE engineers while remaining hands-on in design reviews, architecture decisions, and critical incidents.
- Partner across EPD, Security, and Clinical/Compliance. Work closely with engineering and product leaders, security, and compliance stakeholders to make sound trade-offs on infrastructure, deployment, and regulatory requirements, and with executives on roadmap, investment, and risk.
Qualifications/Skills:- [10+] years in infrastructure, SRE, or platform engineering, including [3+] years leading teams. Demonstrated by: progression from hands-on engineer to technical leader.
- Has previously scaled a platform through a major growth stage (for example, a multiple-x increase in users, traffic, or number of services). Demonstrated by: being able to describe what broke, what you re-architected, and what you would do differently.
- Deep expertise in cloud infrastructure [GCP/AWS: confirm], containers and orchestration, networking (including VPC design and cross-service communication), and production database operations.
- Experience designing for multi-region, data residency, or other compliance-driven architecture. Demonstrated by: having shipped or led a multi-region or regulated-data design.
- Has defined and operated reliability programs: SLOs, on-call rotations, incident command, and blameless postmortems.
- Comfortable making and explaining trade-offs among reliability, speed, cost, and security to both engineers and executives. Situations you will face: deciding whether to invest in a re-architecture or a patch while a launch deadline is approaching, or choosing where data may live when two regions' requirements conflict.
- Hands-on technical credibility: you can review designs, debug in production, and earn the respect of senior engineers.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Preferred QualificationsExperience in healthcare, health tech, or other regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC 2, international privacy regimes).
- Experience integrating infrastructure across acquired companies or multiple business units.
- Familiarity with FinOps practices and tooling.
- Stretch scope (for the right candidate): Interest in leading AI and developer productivity, including AI tooling and enablement across EPD and DevX tooling toward an agentic-first "Software Factory."
