Full Job Description
Job description

The Head of FinOps & Cloud Billing bridges operations and finance for IREN's AI Cloud. The role owns the end-to-end path from usage telemetry through rating to invoice and audit; owns cost allocation, unit economics and gross margin per GPU-hour; and runs the compliance program for cloud operations. It is a build role: the leader defines the function, hires the team, stands up the tooling and controls, and embeds cost and billing accuracy as operational metrics reviewed alongside availability.

Job requirements

  • 10+ years across cloud operations, FinOps, cloud billing or infrastructure finance, including 3+ years leading a team; experience building a function from scratch.
  • Hands-on ownership of a usage-based billing or metering pipeline at a cloud, hosting, colocation or SaaS provider - telemetry ingestion, rating, invoicing and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated FinOps practice: cost allocation, showback/chargeback, unit-economics modelling and forecast-versus-actual reporting for large infrastructure fleets.
  • Direct experience taking an organization through SOC 2 and/or ISO 27001 - control design, evidence, auditor management.
  • Comfortable working with engineers and data: SQL and data-pipeline literacy, ability to specify metering requirements and challenge implementations.
  • Executive-level communication; able to present margin and compliance posture to a CTO, CFO and enterprise customers.
Preferred
  • GPU / HPC / AI-infrastructure economics: power-driven cost structures, GPU generation lifecycle, utilization and commitment models.
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) or equivalent; familiarity with the FOCUS billing-data specification.
  • Experience in a company transitioning business models or scaling rapidly, where controls were built while the business was live.
  • Exposure to FedRAMP or other regulated-market frameworks; experience with revenue-recognition considerations for usage-based contracts.
Leadership attributes
  • Builder's bias - defines the function, hires well, and gets controls in place without slowing the operation.
  • Independence - willing to report uncomfortable margin or billing findings to peers whose teams they measure.
  • Systems thinker who connects metering, cost, pricing and compliance into one coherent operating picture.

Job responsibilities

Billing integrity & metering
  • Own the usage-metering-to-invoice pipeline: reconcile telemetry, rating and invoicing; define and run the billing-accuracy audit; eliminate revenue leakage.
  • Partner with the control-plane software organization and the Sr. Director of Cloud on metering requirements for new products, SKUs and GPU generations.
  • Establish billing dispute handling with Cloud Support and Finance, including root-cause and remediation of systemic errors.
  • Partner with SOX compliance, both internally and with customers, on SOX billing compliance and reporting to ensure a seamless stream of revenue integrity pipeline.
FinOps & unit economics
  • Build cost allocation and showback/chargeback for the AI Cloud: cost per GPU-hour by site, cluster, GPU generation and customer.
  • Own forecast-versus-actual reporting for cloud operating cost and utilization; provide the cost lens on capacity and fleet-lifecycle decisions with the Capacity & Fleet Planner.
  • Drive gross-margin improvement programs - utilization, power, idle capacity, commitment structures - and report progress to the VP and CTO.
Compliance
  • Run the SOC 2 (Type I then Type II) and ISO 27001 programs for cloud operations; own control design, evidence collection and auditor management for the operational controls in scope.
  • Maintain a live view of certification status for the CISO and Sales; ensure certification gaps never surprise an enterprise deal.
Leadership & operating model
  • Hire and lead the FinOps & Cloud Billing team (2 FinOps Analysts, 2 Billing & Metering Engineers, 1 Cloud Compliance Lead); set the team's roadmap and operating cadence.
  • Represent cost, billing and compliance in the Cloud Operations leadership team alongside the Sr. Directors of SRE and Cloud, the Director of Cloud Support and the AD, Service Management.
  • Be the primary Cloud Operations interface to Finance (revenue accounting, SOX, FP&A), Sales Operations (pricing and contracts) and Security (CISO).
