Role OverviewPylon is building a software-driven closing and funding platform. The goal is not to reproduce the traditional mortgage closing department with better tooling. It is to make the path from clear-to-close through documents, settlement, and funding increasingly deterministic and automated.
As Head of Closing & Funding, you will bring the operating expertise of a high-volume lender into that system. You will own the controls, exceptions, quality standards, and domain knowledge that allow Product and Engineering to automate more of the closing process safely over time.
Responsibilities- Own closing and funding domain expertise from clear-to-close through funding.
- Identify repetitive coordination, document, settlement, and funding work that should be automated or eliminated.
- Translate closing workflows, state and settlement nuances, and expert judgment into product requirements and operating rules.
- Build human-review queues, controls, SLAs, and escalation paths for unsupported or exceptional cases.
- Reduce redraws, funding delays, defects, and unnecessary manual touches.
- Establish metrics for automated workflow coverage, exception rates, cycle time, quality, and manual intervention.
- Partner closely with Underwriting, Account Management, Post-Closing, Product, and Engineering.
- Build the expert operations layer required as volume grows.
Qualifications- Significant mortgage closing and/or funding leadership experience.
- Experience operating at 250 to 300+ loans per month, ideally substantially more.
- Strong preference for wholesale lending experience.
- Deep understanding of closing operations, documents, settlement, and funding workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to improve process, quality, or throughput.
- Comfortable making domain knowledge explicit enough for technical teams to encode.
What success looks likePylon can close and fund dramatically more loans while routine human coordination per loan falls. The remaining human work is concentrated in genuinely exceptional cases, and recurring exceptions continuously improve the platform.
