The Opportunity

CACI's Mastodon Design is hiring a Hardware Engineering Manager to lead our hardware engineering group in Rochester, NY. This group spans Power Supply, Digital, RF, along with General Support/Sustainment Engineering disciplines. You'll own the people side of the group — hiring, mentoring, and developing a multidisciplinary team — while partnering closely with engineering and business stakeholders to keep software development and test moving across our product lines.


What You'll Do
  • Lead and manage a multidisciplinary hardware engineering group spanning Power Supply, Digital, RF, along with General Support/Sustainment Engineering.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop engineering technicians and professionals across the hardware team.
  • Set technical priorities and direction for hardware activities, including actively partnering with key stakeholders in Mechanical, Hardware, Systems Engineering, and Product Management
  • Oversee sustaining engineering — obsolescence management, engineering change orders, and post-production support for fielded products
  • Manage staffing and resource allocation across concurrent programs and product lines
  • Partner with Project and Program Management, and Operations to align schedules, budgets, and deliverables with program needs
  • Drive hardware design standards, design review processes, and continuous improvement across the group
  • Partner with supply chain and procurement on component selection, vendor relationships, and long-lead item planning
  • Support proposal efforts with hardware-focused technical write-ups, staffing plans, and basis of estimates (BoEs)
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical hardware issues spanning power, digital, RF, and communications disciplines
  • Champion a strong safety, quality, and test culture across the hardware engineering team
Required Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 10 years of hardware engineering experience, including experience leading or managing a team
  • Minimum of 3 years of Management experience with direct reports
  • Experience across one or more of: power supply design, digital hardware design, RF or communications hardware, or sustaining engineering
  • Experience hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers and technicians
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize a team's work across multiple concurrent programs
  • Comfortable partnering with program management, systems engineering, and supply chain to keep hardware efforts on track
  • Willingness to obtain a Secret clearance as a condition of continued employment

Nice to Have
  • Experience with EW/SIGINT hardware, or ruggedized and embedded systems
  • Familiarity with sustaining engineering and obsolescence management processes
  • Experience managing vendor and supplier relationships for electronic components

There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
