Position DescriptionThe Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) seeks a Hadron Storage Ring (HSR) System Manager. In this role, you will report to the Accelerator Storage Rings Project Manager and be responsible for the delivery of approximately $200M of scope within the EIC project schedule and cost plan. The HSR System Manager manages and directs matrixed technical resources to accomplish the deliverables associated with the Hadron Storage Ring (HSR) Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) within the Accelerator Storage Rings Subproject.
The Hadron Storage Ring is a major accelerator system within the EIC complex and includes the integration of multiple technical subsystems such as magnets, vacuum systems, beam instrumentation, power supplies, RF systems, cryogenics, controls, and supporting mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The HSR System Manager will be responsible for managing these multidisciplinary technical efforts and ensuring the successful design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of the HSR system.
This position requires knowledge across a broad range of engineering disciplines and the ability to lead project execution within a matrixed organization. The HSR System Manager will maintain the technical baseline for the assigned WBS scope and ensure delivery in accordance with established cost, schedule, and technical performance requirements.
The role requires familiarity with project management practices within a federal project environment, including Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), project tracking, scheduling, and reporting systems, to manage cost and schedule performance. The position requires exceptional interpersonal skills to work effectively with scientists, engineers, technicians, and project management staff across the EIC collaboration.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Provide project leadership and accountability for the delivery of the Hadron Storage Ring (HSR) WBS scope within the EIC project cost and schedule baseline.
- Manage and direct matrixed technical resources responsible for engineering, design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning activities associated with the HSR system
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and technical groups to ensure effective integration of HSR subsystems including magnets, vacuum systems, beam instrumentation, power supplies, RF systems, cryogenics, controls, and supporting infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain the HSR system technical baseline, including scope definition, system architecture, cost estimates, and schedule planning in coordination with the Accelerator Storage Rings Subproject management team.
- Ensure technical performance requirements and interface definitions are maintained across the HSR system and with adjacent accelerator systems.
- Utilize federal project management tools and practices including Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), project scheduling, project tracking, and reporting systems to manage cost and schedule performance.
- Identify, assess, and manage technical, cost, and schedule risks associated with the HSR scope and develop mitigation strategies.
- Deliver comprehensive status reports and presentations regarding HSR WBS progress, risks, and performance at project meetings, reporting reviews, and DOE project reviews.
