Job Description
We are looking for an experienced ElectricalEngineeringGroup Lead to guide our innovative electrical team in Vaughan, Ontario.
In this role, you will lead a team of electrical engineers and designers responsible for designing facilities that support life-changing products and technologies. You may oversee the complete electrical design process or serve as a technical expert for specialized designs. You will assess project requirements, divide projects into manageable tasks, and work closely with Project Managers to establish the scope of work, budget, schedule, and staffing requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Forecast workload and resource requirements approximately 12 to 16 weeks in advance.
Develop electrical design, construction, commissioning, and start-up schedules in coordination with architectural and other engineering disciplines.
Assign work to project team members, regularly review progress, and notify the Project Manager of potential scope, schedule, budget, or resource changes.
Maintain technical quality in accordance with company design, production, and quality-management standards.
Work with the Regional Director of Design and Human Resources to recruit, retain, mentor, and develop engineering talent.
Develop staffing and resource plans that support business objectives and the delivery of multiple concurrent projects.
Research design alternatives and prepare electrical design scopes of work based on preliminary assessments and client meetings.
Prepare engineering studies, reports, calculations, and schematic designs for new electrical systems.
Review and assess the operation, capacity, condition, and code compliance of existing electrical systems.
Prepare and review electrical drawings and technical documents, including single-line diagrams, riser diagrams, equipment layouts, schedules, specifications, and design details.
Prepare construction cost estimates and budgets, review contractor progress payment applications, and coordinate the completion of project documents.
Maintain regular communication with clients to confirm project requirements, address concerns, ensure satisfaction, and build long-term relationships.
Work with the project team to develop and execute commissioning activities for electrical systems.
Provide electrical engineering support during procurement, construction, commissioning, project closeout, and warranty periods.
Remain current with technical developments, code changes, sustainable design practices, and emerging technologies to provide innovative solutions that support clients' operational and sustainability goals.
Mentor and coach engineers and designers, provide technical guidance, and support their professional development.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited Canadian university, or an equivalent engineering degree recognized in Canada.
Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligible for licensure with Professional Engineers Ontario, and or any other province or territory in Canada.
Progressive electrical engineering and design experience covering feasibility studies, conceptual design, basis of design, detailed design, construction administration, commissioning, and project closeout.
Experience leading and developing teams of electrical engineers and designers.
Experience designing building electrical systems, including electrical services, power distribution, generators, automatic transfer switches, uninterruptible power supply systems, lighting and lighting controls, fire alarm, security, communications, and other low-voltage systems.
Strong knowledge of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code, including the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I, and Ontario amendments.
Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, and other applicable provincial and municipal requirements.
Working knowledge of applicable Canadian standards, including CSA Z462 for workplace electrical safety, CSA C282 for emergency electrical power supply for buildings, and CAN/ULC standards applicable to fire alarm systems.
Experience applying electrical design software and computer-aided design platforms, including AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical calculation or power-system analysis software.
Knowledge of electrical equipment commonly used in the Canadian market and the ability to prepare appropriate technical specifications for its application.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, nutraceutical, or broader life sciences industries.
Experience designing electrical systems for laboratories, cleanrooms, manufacturing facilities, or other technically complex and regulated environments.
Experience with medium-voltage systems, hazardous locations, telecommunications systems, standby and emergency power systems, UPS systems, and critical power distribution.
Experience with electrical studies such as short-circuit, protective-device coordination, arc-flash, load-flow, voltage-drop, and equipment-capacity assessments.
Experience coordinating with the Electrical Safety Authority, local utilities, municipalities, and other Canadian authorities having jurisdiction.
