Full Job Description

The Global Tax Team is seeking a hands-on indirect tax professional to help build and scale Reddit's global indirect tax function. As Reddit continues to grow as a public company and expand its products and commercial offerings, this person will own critical elements of our US and international indirect tax operations, including US S&U tax and VAT/GST.

You will partner closely with the business to translate complex tax requirements into practical decisions, reliable systems, and scalable processes. In keeping with Reddit values, the successful candidate will operate with an open mindset, exercise sound judgment, and "value the human" in every interaction.

This position will report to the International Tax Senior Manager.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage key elements of Reddit's global indirect tax function across B2B and B2C revenue streams, including US S&U tax, VAT/GST, DSTs, and other transactional taxes.
  • Oversee indirect tax registrations, return compliance, payments, exemption documentation, taxability determinations, and related controls across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Own and improve indirect tax processes and systems, including product and taxability mapping, exemptions, transaction testing, system integrations, data validation, and issue resolution.
  • Serve as the indirect tax cross-functional partner for new products and initiatives, commercial arrangements, billing changes, and geographic expansion.
  • Monitor and implement evolving e-invoicing, digital reporting, and real-time reporting requirements.
  • Perform indirect tax account reconciliations, accruals, journal entries, close activities, and internal controls.
  • Advise on the indirect tax provisions of customer and vendor agreements, invoicing requirements, and available exemptions.
  • Manage indirect tax audits, notices, and disclosures.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess their impact on Reddit.
  • Develop scalable processes, automation, metrics, and documentation that improve data quality, reduce manual work, and strengthen operational controls.
  • Contribute to broader Global Tax Team priorities and ad hoc projects, flexing beyond the role's core indirect tax responsibilities as business needs evolve.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Tax, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of indirect tax experience in public accounting and/or a multinational corporate tax function, including meaningful hands-on operational experience.
  • Technical and operational experience with both US and international indirect taxes, including B2B and B2C transactions.
  • Experience researching product and service taxability, registration and nexus obligations, place-of-supply rules, invoicing requirements, and exemptions.
  • Experience supporting indirect tax compliance, accounting, audits, and controls across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ability to understand end-to-end transaction flows and convert tax requirements into workable processes, data requirements, and system configurations.
  • Strong project-management skills and experience supporting system changes or other cross-functional initiatives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain complex tax matters to non-tax stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment in a fast-moving and evolving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, ownership, curiosity, and commitment to developing durable solutions rather than temporary workarounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Vertex experience is highly preferred, particularly with rule or product mapping, transaction testing, system integrations, configuration changes, data validation, reconciliations, and production troubleshooting. Experience with another enterprise indirect tax engine will also be considered.
  • Experience with indirect tax issues affecting technology, digital media, advertising, subscriptions, SaaS, or other high-volume transactional businesses.
  • Experience implementing e-invoicing, digital reporting, or real-time reporting requirements.
  • Experience working with ERP, billing, procurement, and financial-reporting systems and analyzing large transactional datasets.
  • Experience with automation or data tools such as Alteryx or SQL.
  • A CPA, CMI, MST, JD, LLM, or comparable professional qualification.
  • A combination of public accounting and in-house experience.

Benefits:
  • Comprehensive Healthcare Benefits and Income Replacement Programs
  • 401k with Employer Match
  • Global Benefit programs that fit your lifestyle, from workspace to professional development to caregiving support
  • Family Planning Support
  • Gender-Affirming Care
  • Mental Health & Coaching Benefits
  • Flexible Vacation & Paid Volunteer Time Off
  • Generous Paid Parental Leave

About Reddit

Reddit is an American social news aggregation, web content rating, and discussion website. Registered members submit content to the site such as links, text posts, images, and videos, which are then voted up or down by other members. Posts are organized by subject into user-created boards called "communities" or "subreddits", which cover topics such as news, politics, religion, science, movies, video games, music, books, sports, fitness, cooking, pets, and image-sharing. Submissions with more upvotes appear towards the top of their subreddit and, if they receive enough upvotes, ultimately on the site's front page. Although there are strict rules prohibiting harassment, it still occurs, and Reddit administrators moderate the communities and close or restrict them on occasion. Moderation is also conducted by community-specific moderators, who are not considered Reddit employees. As of September 2021, Reddit ranks as the 19th-most-visited website in the world and 7th most-visited website in the U.S., according to Alexa Internet. About 42–49.3% of its user base comes from the United States, followed by the United Kingdom at 7.9–8.2% and Canada at 5.2–7.8%. Twenty-two percent of U.S. adults aged 18 to 29 years, and 14 percent of U.S. adults aged 30 to 49 years, regularly use Reddit. Reddit was founded by University of Virginia roommates Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian, with Aaron Swartz, in 2005. Condé Nast Publications acquired the site in October 2006. In 2011, Reddit became an independent subsidiary of Condé Nast's parent company, Advance Publications. In October 2014, Reddit raised $50 million in a funding round led by Sam Altman and including investors Marc Andreessen, Peter Thiel, Ron Conway, Snoop Dogg, and Jared Leto. Their investment valued the company at $500 million then. In July 2017, Reddit raised $200 million for a $1.8 billion valuation, with Advance Publications remaining the majority stakeholder. In February 2019, a $300 million funding round led by Tencent brought the company's valuation to $3 billion. In August 2021, a $700 million funding round led by Fidelity Investments raised that valuation to over $10 billion.
