The OpportunityThe Geotechnical Engineering Superintendent is a key technical and people leadership role responsible for building and leading the geotechnical function in support of a complex underground and surface mining operation in Nevada. This role will provide strategic oversight of ground control, geotechnical risk management, mine restart readiness, and operational support while partnering closely with Mine Engineering, Operations, Geology, Safety, Maintenance, and external technical resources. The successful candidate will bring strong underground mining experience, sound judgment, and the ability to lead through ambiguity, influence cross-functional teams, develop talent, and drive practical, innovative solutions that support safe, efficient, and sustainable mining.
Responsibilities- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to the geotechnical engineering team
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence
- Build strong partnerships with Mine Engineering, Operations, Geology, Safety, Maintenance, and site leadership to align geotechnical priorities with production, restart, and long-range planning objectives
- Mentor, coach, and develop geotechnical engineers and technical personnel, creating clear expectations, development plans, and opportunities for growth
- Lead through challenging technical and operational conversations with professionalism, transparency, and confidence, ensuring risks, trade-offs, and recommendations are clearly communicated
- Serve as the principal geotechnical advisor to mine leadership
- Manage the site's ground control management plan (GCMP)
- Provide strategic oversight of all geotechnical monitoring, analysis, and reporting programs
- Drive strategic innovation by advancing practical geotechnical systems, monitoring tools, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement initiatives that support safe restart and future growth
- Establish geotechnical standards, procedures, and best practices to support safe mining activities
- Develop and standardize geotechnical practices, procedures, and communication rhythms to ensure consistent execution across underground, surface, and restart-related workstreams
- Assess existing underground infrastructure and historical workings to support safe mine re-entry and rehabilitation
- Evaluate backfill performance and its impact on grounds stability
- Monitor stope performance and recommend design modifications as needed
- Manage rock mass characterization and geotechnical data collection programs

Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline
- Minimum 10 years of progressive underground mining experience required, preferably in Nevada or comparable North American hard rock operations
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing geotechnical or technical services teams preferred
- Advanced understanding of underground ground control, rock mechanics, mine restart conditions, and geotechnical risk management
- Experience developing and implementing ground control management plans
- Strong knowledge of underground support systems, backfill practices, and stope stability analysis
- Professional Engineer (P.E) designation or ability to obtain licensure preferred
- Experience with numerical modeling software such as FLAC3D, RS2, Map3D, or similar programs required
