Specific ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will serve as a senior technical contributor for Apache's Houston-based Egypt Gas Exploration team. This role focuses on subsurface interpretation, prospect generation, and petroleum systems analysis across Egypt's Western Desert, leveraging expertise in fluvial to shallow marine clastic systems and advanced seismic interpretation to reduce uncertainty and support exploration, drilling, and investment decisions. The position includes active involvement in drilling campaigns and field operations.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of hydrocarbon discoveries, extensive experience in complex structural and clastic depositional settings, and strong skills in seismic interpretation and well log correlation from regional to prospect scale. Success in this role requires technical leadership, stakeholder influence, and the ability to communicate complex subsurface concepts effectively to executives, industry peers, and technical audiences.
This role will be primarily responsible for the following:
- Generate and mature exploration prospects across the Western Desert of Egypt.
- Integrate seismic, well log, core, and production data to develop and defend geologic interpretations.
- Deliver pre-drill evaluations, including volumetrics, risking, and uncertainty assessments.
- Apply sequence stratigraphy, depositional systems analysis, and structural interpretation to predict reservoir distribution and quality.
- Utilize advanced Petrel workflows for subsurface evaluation.
- Support and mentor geoscientists through knowledge sharing and technical coaching.
- Partner with engineering and operations teams to optimize exploration drilling and execute successful drilling campaigns.
- Collaborate closely with Apache teams in Houston and Cairo.
Qualifications & ExperienceThe successful candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geophysics or related field required; Master's or Ph.D. degree preferred.
- 10+ years relevant experience.
- Expertise in fluvial to shallow marine clastic systems; Western Desert experience preferred.
- Strong record of lead generation, prospect maturation, and hydrocarbon discovery.
- Advanced seismic interpretation and well log/core integration skills using Petrel.
- Experience with probabilistic volumetric assessments (Rose RA or similar).
- Experienced in well planning, drilling operations, completions, and operational constraints.
- Strong business acumen, including economic screening and value-of-information analysis.
- Effective communicator with the ability to influence technical and business decisions.
- Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience.
