Broad General Surgery. Meaningful Wound Care. Community Practice Autonomy.

Rochester Regional Health is seeking an experienced General Surgeon to join an established two-surgeon practice at United Memorial Medical Center (UMMC) in Batavia, New York.

This unique 0.8 FTE General Surgery / 0.2 FTE Wound Care opportunity allows you to maintain a broad surgical practice while developing a meaningful clinical focus in wound care. You'll step into an established practice with immediate volume, strong referral relationships, robotic capabilities, and the resources of a large integrated health system.

General Surgery | 0.8 FTE

Step into an established community General Surgery practice and contribute immediately.

  • Provide a broad scope of General Surgery, including EGD, colonoscopy, hernia, gallbladder, colorectal, and minimally invasive robotic procedures.
  • Provide inpatient surgical care, outpatient clinic visits, and Emergency Department consultation.
  • Enjoy approximately 2–3 OR days per week, with remaining time dedicated to clinic-based care.
  • Work alongside experienced surgeons, APPs, nurses, and surgical teams while maintaining the autonomy and patient relationships of community practice.

Wound Care | 0.2 FTE

Spend approximately 20% of your clinical time in an outpatient wound care clinic, evaluating and treating patients with acute, chronic, and complex wounds.

  • Perform outpatient wound care procedures, including debridement and other evidence-based treatments.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and collaborate with multidisciplinary providers to support healing and prevent complications.
  • Patients requiring operative wound management will transition into the General Surgery practice, providing continuity from outpatient evaluation through surgical treatment.

Call & Practice Structure

  • Shared Emergency Department call within a collaborative two-surgeon practice.
  • 7 days of call per month, in addition to 1–2 weekends per month.
  • Additional call opportunities available and compensated separately.
  • Inpatient APP support helps optimize workflow and patient care.

What We're Looking For

  • MD or DO; Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
  • 3+ years of independent General Surgery experience with the ability to step into an established practice and contribute immediately.
  • Operative and endoscopic experience, including EGD and colonoscopy.
  • Robotic surgery experience preferred.
  • Experience or interest in outpatient wound care preferred.
  • Eligible for New York State medical licensure.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.
