General Superintendent - Plumbing

Position Overview

As General Superintendent - Plumbing, you'll provide senior-level leadership and oversight for HVAC installation teams across multiple commercial projects, ensuring exceptional safety, quality, profitability, and customer satisfaction. Reporting to the Vice President of Installation (or equivalent), you'll manage superintendents, foremen, and technicians within your trade, align with project operations goals, forecast labor needs, champion safety and quality standards, and foster high-performing teams that deliver reliable, code-compliant mechanical systems nationwide.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee trade-specific labor, manpower planning, and resource allocation across the project portfolio to meet schedule, budget, and quality goals.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and control all trade activities, including safety, quality, scheduling, material control, equipment rentals, labor performance, and client communication.
  • Develop and deliver labor reports, forecasting, and performance metrics to project operations leadership for informed decision-making.
  • Ensure strict compliance with contract documents, specifications, budgets, procedures, safety requirements, quality expectations, and company policies across all trade personnel.
  • Manage weekly and project-level reporting (crew time, safety/toolbox talks, production, schedule projections) and assure timely submission and processing.
  • Assign superintendents, general foremen, foremen, and trade labor across projects; oversee subcontractor activities and subordinate staff as needed.
  • Provide vision for project planning, coordination, sequencing, and labor utilization; collaborate with project operations to develop build plans.
  • Communicate project issues, events, and performance updates to executive leadership.
  • Build and develop a high-performing team through supervision, training, coaching, mentoring, performance evaluations, promotions, and incentive recommendations.
  • Champion quality assurance: conduct job-site visits/reviews, ensure installations meet industry/Modigent standards, prevent repeated issues/call-backs/warranty work, and partner with quality teams to implement processes and inspections.
  • Lead safety performance: assure compliance with company/project safety requirements, coordinate inspections, enforce PPE usage, manage safety expectations, document incidents, and work with safety teams to implement protocols and training.
  • Foster long-term relationships: proactively communicate with internal departments (HR, finance, safety, quality, service, sales, preconstruction, purchasing, etc.), clients, subcontractors, and vendors to support continuity, growth, and exceptional service.
  • Resolve trade-specific conflicts, multitask competing priorities, and maintain urgency/initiative to drive project success and customer relations.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Yes - Direct supervision and leadership of trade-specific superintendents, general foremen, foremen, technicians, and support staff across the portfolio; responsible for hiring recommendations, performance evaluations, training/mentoring, promotions/incentives, labor capacity management, and succession planning to build a high-performing team.

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in commercial HVAC/mechanical installation, including 5+ years in supervisory/leadership roles managing trade teams, labor forecasting, and multi-project oversight.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Relevant trade certifications (e.g., OSHA 30-hour, EPA 608 if applicable) strongly preferred; valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Physical Demands: Primarily office-based with frequent job-site visits; ability to walk active construction sites, climb ladders/stairs, lift light materials (plans, laptop), and travel regionally/nationally as needed; standard office mobility for computer work and meetings.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Professional office with hybrid options and active construction sites; exposure to varying weather, noise, dust, heights; must adhere to OSHA regulations, conduct hazard identification, and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots) on sites-safety is our top priority and non-negotiable.
