POSITION SUMMARY The General Manager is responsible for overseeing all employees, ensuring productivity, and managing day-to-day operations in both the field and shop. This role provides leadership, direction, and accountability across all aspects of structural steel erection, including estimating, scheduling, material procurement, fabrication, and customer relations. The General Manager serves as the primary liaison between customers and field personnel, ensuring projects are executed with efficiency, safety, and quality workmanship.
RESPONSIBILITIES Include but not limited to:
- Oversee all employee duties and productivity across field and shop operations.
- Provide daily and hourly instruction to field and shop personnel regarding job responsibilities.
- Maintain a strong presence on job sites to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to company standards.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Run day-to-day operations in the field and shop, ensuring efficiency and safety.
- Oversee all aspects of structural steel erection, including:
- Estimating project costs
- Scheduling work and resources
- Ordering and managing materials
- Coordinating fabrication and installation
- Managing time and project deadlines
- Attend pre-construction meetings and line out field personnel for upcoming work.
- Monitor progress to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
- Act as liaison between customers and field personnel to ensure clear communication and satisfaction.
- Provide customer assistance and resolve issues promptly.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and quality standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in structural steel erection, fabrication, or a closely related construction field.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience, preferably overseeing both field and shop personnel.
- Strong knowledge of structural steel erection processes, fabrication workflows, and construction sequencing.
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, and specifications.
- Demonstrated experience in project estimating, scheduling, and material procurement.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to direct crews and collaborate with customers.
- Strong understanding of jobsite safety practices, OSHA requirements, and risk mitigation.
- Proficiency with basic computer tools (email, scheduling software, spreadsheets).
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Must hold current 232 certification.
- Experience working with cranes, rigging, and steel erection equipment, preferred.
- Familiarity with industry software such as Bluebeam, Procore, or FabSuite, preferred.
- Knowledge of welding processes and fabrication shop operations, preferred.
- Certifications such as OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, or Rigging/Signalperson credentials, preferred.
