A&R Hospitality is hiring a
General Manager to lead an
independent, full-service hotel of about 200 rooms in Mobile, Alabama, with food and beverage, catering, and banquet operations.
There's no brand playbook here. You'll shape the guest experience, the service culture, and the revenue strategy yourself, with the backing of an experienced hospitality company.
Why This Role Is DifferentAt a branded hotel, the brand writes the rules and gets much of the credit. At an independent hotel, the GM defines what the hotel stands for, and the results reflect that leadership directly.
You'll lead a large team across Rooms, Food & Beverage, Sales, Catering, Banquets, and Engineering. You'll build business from Mobile's convention, corporate, cruise, wedding, and Mardi Gras demand, and represent the hotel as a respected leader in the local community.
You'll report to A&R's
Regional Director of Operations, with the authority to make decisions and real support behind you.
What You'll OwnExecutive Leadership & Strategic Direction- Serve as the senior on-property leader, fully accountable for hotel performance
- Develop and execute the annual business plan, including revenue strategy, capital planning, and operating goals
- Define and uphold the hotel's own service standards, guest experience, and identity in the market
- Communicate performance, risks, and opportunities to corporate leadership and ownership
P&L Management & Financial Performance- Own the full P&L across all departments and revenue streams
- Drive revenue growth while controlling expenses to maximize GOP and NOI
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Track and act on key metrics, including RevPAR, ADR, occupancy, departmental profit margins, F&B revenue, cost of goods sold, labor costs, and market share (STR/CoStar indexes)
- Maintain strong controls over payroll, purchasing, and capital spending
Revenue Management, Sales & Marketing- Partner with the Director of Sales and revenue management to maximize top-line performance
- Shape pricing strategy, segmentation, group mix, and demand forecasting
- Grow direct bookings and manage OTA and channel distribution without a brand reservation system or loyalty program behind you
- Drive group, corporate, catering, wedding, and transient business
- Oversee the hotel's website, digital marketing, social media, and local partnerships
- Track market trends, competitors, and demand drivers across Mobile and the Gulf Coast
Food & Beverage, Catering & Banquets- Provide executive oversight of all restaurant, bar, kitchen, and banquet and catering operations
- Ensure profitability, quality, and food safety compliance
- Monitor inventory, cost of goods sold, labor productivity, and menu performance
- Oversee flawless execution of conferences, group functions, weddings, and special events
Operations & Guest Experience- Oversee Rooms Division, Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering, and Guest Services
- Create a consistent, memorable guest experience that sets the hotel apart from branded competitors
- Monitor guest satisfaction, online reviews, and reputation management across TripAdvisor, Google, and OTA sites
- Handle escalated guest issues and lead strong service recovery
- Drive continuous improvement in processes and service delivery
Leadership & Talent Development- Lead, mentor, and develop department heads and leadership teams
- Set clear expectations and hold leaders accountable for results
- Facilitate fact-finding when employee relations issues arise, in partnership with Human Resources
- Consistently enforce A&R company policies and Standard Operating Procedures, and train leaders when gaps are identified
- Drive engagement, retention, and succession planning
Asset Management & Capital Planning- Protect and maintain the physical asset for long-term value
- Oversee engineering and preventative maintenance programs
- Partner with ownership and corporate leadership on capital improvement planning
- Lead hurricane preparedness and storm recovery for the property and team
Risk Management, Safety & Compliance- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, including health, liquor, fire, and life safety codes
- Maintain safety and security for guests, associates, and assets
- Oversee loss prevention, emergency response, and risk management programs
Ownership & Community Relations- Serve as the primary liaison with ownership, asset management, and corporate leadership
- Provide timely, accurate reporting and updates
- Lead executive committee meetings on performance and strategy
- Represent the hotel in the Mobile community, with civic organizations, the convention and visitors bureau, and local business partners

- Food & Beverage and banquets run profitably and earn repeat business

Requirements- 5-7+ years of progressive hotel leadership experience
- Prior General Manager experience at a full-service hotel with food and beverage, catering, and banquet operations
- Proven P&L ownership of a complex, multi-department operation
- Strong knowledge of Rooms, F&B, Sales, and Revenue Management
- Experience leading large teams and department heads
- Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills
- Current or recent General Manager experience is required. This role is not open to Assistant General Managers.
PreferredIndependent or boutique hotel experience • Experience managing hotels of 200+ rooms • Direct booking, digital marketing, and OTA channel management • Experience working with ownership groups and asset managers • Gulf Coast or hurricane-market experience • Strong ties to the Mobile business community • Familiarity with hotel PMS, CRM, and revenue management systems • A bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Business, or a related field
