Principal Portfolio Manager - Product, Program & Project Delivery

This role is not eligible for 100% remote work. Employees must live within a commutable distance of the Nashville, TN metropolitan area and must be willing to be onsite at the client and/or Slalom office 5 days a week.

What You'll Do

As a Principal Portfolio Manager, you will lead a portfolio of strategic initiatives that blend product, program, and project delivery disciplines to achieve measurable business outcomes. You will oversee interconnected investments, product initiatives, and transformation programs, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy while maximizing value, managing risk, and enabling executive decision-making.

This role is ideal for a leader who balances strategic portfolio oversight with hands-on delivery leadership. You will serve as the connective tissue between business stakeholders, product teams, delivery teams, and executive leadership, driving execution while maintaining a strong focus on customer value, product outcomes, and organizational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a portfolio of business and technology initiatives, ensuring investments align to strategic objectives, product roadmaps, and organizational priorities.
• Oversee complex product-focused programs consisting of multiple projects and workstreams, driving successful delivery and measurable business outcomes.
• Partner with executive stakeholders to establish portfolio priorities, evaluate trade-offs, allocate resources, and guide investment decisions.
• Create visibility into portfolio health through governance, reporting, financial oversight, dependency management, and risk mitigation.
• Drive alignment across product, business, technology, and operations teams to ensure delivery efforts support long-term product and organizational goals.
• Enable product-centric delivery models by connecting strategy, roadmap execution, customer outcomes, and operational excellence.
• Balance scope, budget, timeline, value realization, and organizational capacity across multiple simultaneous initiatives.
• Build trusted relationships across all levels of the organization, influencing decisions and driving alignment through ambiguity and change.
• Optimize team performance and delivery velocity by proactively removing obstacles, facilitating decision-making, and coaching delivery leaders.
• Mentor project managers, program managers, product leaders, and consultants while contributing to the evolution of portfolio management and delivery practices.
• Leverage data, AI-enabled tools, and delivery metrics to improve decision-making, operational effectiveness, forecasting, and portfolio outcomes.
• Support business development activities, solution shaping, and executive conversations related to strategic transformation and portfolio planning.

What You'll Bring

• 8+ years of experience leading strategic portfolios, programs, and large-scale business transformation initiatives within consulting or complex enterprise environments.
• Demonstrated success managing a portfolio of initiatives spanning product management, program delivery, and project execution.
• Strong understanding of product operating models, product lifecycle management, roadmap planning, and value realization frameworks.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams across business, technology, operations, data, and product disciplines.
• Ability to translate technology investments into business outcomes, communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Expertise in portfolio governance, prioritization, dependency management, financial oversight, resource planning, and executive reporting.
• Proven track record building executive stakeholder relationships and influencing decisions across multiple levels of an organization.
• Experience delivering business and technology transformation initiatives, including digital, cloud, data, customer experience, operational excellence, or modernization programs.
• Strong understanding of Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery methodologies, with the ability to tailor approaches based on organizational maturity and business needs.
• Experience leveraging AI-enabled tools and data-driven insights to improve delivery effectiveness, team productivity, and decision quality.
• Exceptional communication, facilitation, leadership, and organizational change management capabilities.

Slalom is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For this role, we are hiring at the following levels and targeted base pay salary ranges: The targeted base salary pay range for a Principal is $140,000 to $170,000. In addition, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will depend upon an individual's skills, experience, qualifications, location, and other relevant factors. The salary pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
