Job SummaryThe Center for Fetal Medicine and Reproductive Genetics (CFMRG) at Brigham and Women's Hospital is a multidisciplinary reproductive genetics program committed to providing exceptional, patient-centered care across prenatal, reproductive, and fetal genetics services.
The Genetic Counselor I works alongside licensed genetic counselors and physicians to provide genetic counseling, education, care coordination, and support to individuals and families navigating reproductive and prenatal genetic care. This role contributes to high-quality clinical care through counseling, genetic test coordination, clinical documentation, and collaboration with an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

QualificationsPrincipal Duties and ResponsibilitiesClinical Genetic Counseling- Provide genetic counseling to individuals and families regarding reproductive, prenatal, and fetal genetic concerns under appropriate clinical supervision.
- Obtain and assess personal, medical, pregnancy, and family histories to identify and evaluate genetic risks.
- Educate patients and families about genetic conditions, inheritance patterns, screening and diagnostic testing options, and the potential benefits, limitations, and outcomes of testing.
- Support patients in making informed decisions regarding genetic testing and reproductive care.
- Communicate genetic test results and provide appropriate follow-up counseling, education, and support.
Care Coordination- Coordinate genetic testing, referrals, and follow-up care in collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, laboratories, and external healthcare organizations.
- Facilitate timely communication among patients, families, and members of the multidisciplinary care team.
- Support scheduling, insurance authorization, test tracking, and other activities that help ensure continuity of care.
- Help patients navigate complex reproductive and prenatal care pathways.
Documentation and Clinical Support- Document patient encounters and clinical activities accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record.
- Maintain thorough records related to genetic testing, clinical outcomes, and patient communications.
- Prepare patient correspondence, clinical summaries, and reports.
- Contribute to clinical data collection, quality improvement, and program initiatives.
Collaboration and Professional Development- Collaborate with maternal-fetal medicine physicians, obstetric providers, nurses, genetic counseling assistants, and other members of the reproductive genetics team.
- Participate in team meetings, educational conferences, case reviews, and other learning opportunities.
- Seek guidance and supervision from licensed genetic counselors and medical directors as appropriate.
- Stay current with developments in genetics, reproductive medicine, and genetic counseling practice.
- Contribute to patient and provider education initiatives within the department.
- Pursue opportunities to expand clinical knowledge and skills within a collaborative academic medical center environment.
