Job DescriptionThe Role
TuneCore Engineering builds the web and mobile applications that power the world's leading music distribution platform for independent artists. We're looking for a Fullstack React Native Developer to help build our next-generation mobile experience - someone equally comfortable shipping polished React Native features and building the Rails APIs that power them.
This is a senior-level role: you'll own significant technical scope, set direction on mobile architecture and practices, and mentor other engineers, while staying hands-on in the codebase.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and maintain cross-platform mobile applications using React Native for iOS and Android from a single codebase
- Build and maintain the Rails API endpoints that power the mobile app - request/response contracts, background jobs, and data models the client depends on
- Work closely with product, design, and backend engineers to translate designs and wireframes into high-quality, reusable code across the full stack
- Integrate RESTful APIs and third-party SDKs; optimize app performance, responsiveness, and stability
- Write unit and integration tests, and help shape our mobile testing strategy as we build out React Native end-to-end coverage
- Debug and resolve platform-specific issues, including native modules and bridging
- Manage app store submissions and release processes for both the App Store and Google Play
- Stay current with the React Native ecosystem and mobile best practices, and bring relevant updates back to the team
- Uphold TuneCore's core mission, vision, and values in the code you ship and the decisions you make
Leadership Expectations
- Provide technical leadership on mobile architecture decisions, balancing durability and scalability against delivery speed
- Set and evolve coding standards and best practices for the mobile codebase
- Give effective, constructive code review feedback to other engineers
- Mentor and guide engineers on the team in both technical growth and career development
- Research and recommend new tools and technologies where they'd meaningfully improve the team's output
Qualifications- Skills and Attributes
- 6+ years of experience writing production code, including 3+ years building and shipping mobile applications
- Strong proficiency in React / React Native, and in JavaScript/TypeScript
- Demonstrated fluency with Ruby on Rails in production - building and maintaining API-only Rails services, not just "a web framework of some kind"
- Familiarity with state management approaches (we currently use React Query and Context API)
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and mobile release workflows
- Understanding of mobile UI/UX principles and platform guidelines (Apple HIG, Material Design)
- Experience with REST APIs and async data handling; GraphQL a plus
- Experience with native iOS (Swift/Objective-C) or Android (Kotlin/Java) a plus, but not required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
