General purpose

The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) invites applications for a Full-time Faculty position in Creative Entrepreneurship. MICA is recognized for the quality of its fine art and design programs at national and international levels, its dedication to student learning and teaching excellence, a rigorous liberal arts curriculum, and for preparing students for successful creative careers. We invite applications from entrepreneurs in art and design who have a demonstrated commitment to education to join our faculty with a preferred start date of August 1, 2027.

Program Description

MICA's Creative Entrepreneurship program offers a minor that prepares students to lead sustainable, impactful creative lives. This program blends studio practice with real-world entrepreneurial strategies, helping artists and designers turn their ideas into viable ventures. Through interactive, hands-on courses, students gain skills in marketing, budgeting, grant writing, social entrepreneurship, project management, contracts, and more-all essential for thriving in the creative economy.

The Creative Entrepreneurship courses are open to all undergraduate and graduate students and are intended to supplement the curriculum in all other academic programs at the College. Students in these classes often work with real clients, offering opportunities to build a portfolio of meaningful, socially and economically valuable work.

Many of the courses also intersect with the programming of the Ratcliffe Center for Creative Entrepreneurship (RCCE), which serves as a hub for MICA students & alumni to engage with programs that connect resources & training to grow creative ideas into viable businesses. These programs include the First Year Fellows in Creative Entrepreneurship, Art Market, the JUST/Start Idea Competition, the UP/Start Venture Competition, the E/Intern program, the Creative Entrepreneurship Innovation LaunchPad, and the Creative Futures Residency.

Summary of Essential Functions

MICA seeks a dedicated educator and entrepreneur with a breadth of professional experience to serve as a full-time faculty member and Program Director for the Minor in Creative Entrepreneurship.

The ideal candidate will be a demonstrated leader of an entrepreneurial organization or creative business. The candidate will be enthusiastic about the future of creative entrepreneurship and its potential, especially within the fields of fine arts and design. In partnership with the RCCE Director, the candidate will lead a team of faculty and staff to further develop the vision for the minor in Creative Entrepreneurship.

MICA seeks candidates with a global perspective on business and entrepreneurship. Ideal candidates will be open to exploring innovative ways to craft new courses, experiential learning opportunities, and research projects that empower students to imagine sustainable futures after graduation. Preferred candidates should have experience developing student-centered programs, hands-on pedagogical approaches, and research and material practices relevant to a student, faculty, and community population rich in diversity across race, ethnicity, gender, culture, physical ability, and class. They should also have an enthusiasm for working in Baltimore and building connections with the dynamic arts scene, creative community, and small business sectors in the city.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Teach four courses per year, or two per term, in the Creative Entrepreneurship minor (equivalent of 12 credits per year)
  • Coordinate all operational aspects of the Creative Entrepreneurship minor
  • Develop and refine new courses proposed for the Creative Entrepreneurship minor in consultation with other faculty and staff across the institution
  • Lead in the recruitment process and curriculum planning for the First Year Fellows in Creative Entrepreneurship program for new MICA students
  • Develop strategic partnerships and alliances with members of the Baltimore community and beyond to bring new voices into the program and secure new mentors and internship positions in collaboration with the Center for Career Development and RCCE teams.
  • Recruit, mentor, and advise students in the minor, holding office hours for students
  • Oversee budget related to the minor
  • Attend monthly meetings with the RCCE team
  • Serve on the Ratcliffe Center for Creative Entrepreneurship's Advisory Team
  • Serve on the RCCE faculty teaching grant selection committee to approve eligible courses.
  • Lead hiring for faculty to teach courses in the Creative Entrepreneurship minor program.
  • Attend major RCCE events including UP/Start, JUST/Start, Art Market.


The Program Director is expected to contribute to the life of the College through cross-programmatic collaboration, committee work, recruitment efforts, community engagement, and other institution-related duties. As a full-time faculty member, they are also expected to pursue research and/ or professional engagements that contribute to the educational mission of the College. The position reports to the Dean for Liberal Arts and Education and participates in regular undergraduate academic leadership meetings with other art and design curricular programs.

Minimum qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree (BA, BFA, or other equivalent degree in respective fields)
  • Teaching experience at the college level beyond graduate internships/assistantships
  • Entrepreneurial experience in a business or a nonprofit organization
  • Experience with academic program management or equivalent administrative responsibilities
  • Three years of experience teaching, training, or mentoring in an educational context or in alternative learning spaces (such as businesses, residencies, research programs, internships, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to support professional development of artists, designers, and emerging creative practitioners
  • Evidence of ability to work with colleagues across disciplinary boundaries
  • Experience and ease providing collaborative leadership
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Capacity to work on campus 3+ days per week


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree (MA, MFA, MBA, or equivalent terminal degree in respective fields)
  • A proven track record of working collaboratively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, diverse socioeconomic experiences, education levels, and degrees of professional training
  • Experience with curriculum development and assessment
  • Demonstrated ease with networking, writing, and presentation
  • Experience working with English Language Learners, intercultural differences, and varied abilities in the classroom


Reporting to this position: Part-time faculty.

Conditions of Employment: Satisfactory Background Check

Salary: Commensurate with experience and college policy ranging from $56,246 to 146,325. Excellent benefits package.
