Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW

The FP&A Manager (or Senior Financial Analyst, depending on experience) will serve as the analytical backbone of our finance function, partnering directly with the CFO, operating leadership, and our PE sponsor to deliver the financial intelligence needed to run the business and execute our growth strategy. This is a high-visibility, hands-on role with meaningful exposure to board-level reporting, M&A diligence, and strategic planning in a fast-paced distribution environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning
• Lead the annual budget process, including consolidation of branch/regional inputs, corporate overhead, and capital expenditure planning.
• Develop and maintain a 18-month rolling forecast model, updated monthly, incorporating sales pipeline data, supplier pricing trends, and operational assumptions.
• Perform detailed variance analysis (actual vs. budget vs. forecast) with actionable commentary and recommendations for course-correction.
• Build and own the long-range plan (LRP/5-year model) aligned to the sponsor's investment thesis and exit timeline.
• Partner with operations, purchasing, and sales leadership to translate business initiatives into financial projections and scenario analyses.

Management and Sponsor Reporting & Analysis
• Maintain and continuously improve the financial model used for internal reporting, sponsor reporting, lender reporting, and management decision-making.
• Analyze actual results vs. budget, forecast, prior year, and PE investment case assumptions
• Provide clear explanations of financial results and business drivers to executive leadership
• Own the monthly and quarterly reporting package delivered to the PE sponsor and board, including flash reports, KPI dashboards, board decks, and covenant compliance tracking.
• Prepare and present management reporting with variance-to-budget and variance-to-prior-year commentary for all key operating metrics.
• Track and report on critical distribution KPIs: revenue per SKU, gross margin by product category and channel, inventory turns, fill rate, and working capital metrics.
• Support the preparation of quarterly lender compliance certificates and maintenance covenant calculations.

Commercial & Operational Finance
• Conduct deep-dive profitability analyses by product line, customer segment, geography, and sales channel to identify margin improvement opportunities.
• Support pricing strategy decisions with data-driven analysis of cost inputs, competitive dynamics, and margin impact.
• Monitor working capital efficiency (DSO, DPO, inventory days) and partner with operations on improvement initiatives.
• Build self-service reporting tools and dashboards to reduce manual reporting burden and improve data accessibility for operating leaders.

Process improvement and Systems
• Improve forecasting accuracy, reporting efficiency, and analytical capabilities
• Develop and automate financial reporting tools, dashboards, and KPI reporting
• Enhance data integrity across ERP, Tableau, Microsoft BI and reporting systems
• Establish scalable FP&A processes and controls to support growth

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; CFA, CPA, or MBA a plus.
• 3-8 years of progressive finance experience; PE-backed company, investment banking, or Big 4 Transaction Advisory background strongly preferred.
• Expert-level financial modeling skills in Excel; experience building integrated 3-statement and LBO models from scratch.
• Demonstrated experience in a PE-sponsored environment with exposure to board/sponsor reporting, covenant tracking, or M&A support.
• Strong understanding of distribution or product-based business economics (gross margin, inventory management, working capital dynamics).
• Exceptional analytical rigor combined with the ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly to non-finance audiences.
• Proven track record of operating effectively in a lean, fast-paced, and ambiguous environment.

Preferred
• Experience at a distribution, building products, or specialty trade company.
• Familiarity with ERP systems common to distribution (Epicor, NetSuite, Prophet 21, SAP Business One).
• Hands-on experience with a buy-and-build M&A strategy, including diligence and integration workstreams.
• Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI/visualization tool experience.
