Full Job Description
Founding Business Development Representative

Macroscope is looking to hire our first BDR to build the top of our enterprise funnel from scratch. Our buyer is a CTO, VP of Engineering, or founder who still reviews diffs, and who deletes a dozen generic AI dev tool emails a day. Volume alone doesn't work on that person, so the unit of work here isn't a touch, it's a specific and true reason a particular engineering org should care right now. You'll work directly with our founders and Account Executives, and the outbound motion you build is the one we scale.

Your focus:
  • Outbound pipeline generation: Own top-of-funnel for our enterprise motion. Research accounts, find the reason to reach out, and run multi-channel outreach across email, LinkedIn, phone, dev communities, and events. We have no religion about channel, we care what converts into real conversations.
  • Target account strategy: Define who we go after rather than inherit a list. Use GitHub signals, engineering hiring patterns, funding events, and what you hear in the field to figure out which orgs are ready for Macroscope and which are a waste of a month.
  • Inbound qualification: Work the meaningful inbound our PLG motion generates. Separate the single engineer kicking tires from the 200-person org, fast, and hand off to AEs with crisp context and clear next steps.
  • Messaging and experimentation: Write the copy, run the tests, kill what doesn't work. Tell us honestly which of our claims land with an engineering leader and which ones we just like saying.
  • Market insight and iteration: Share learnings from the field to refine our sales strategy, messaging, and playbooks. Work directly with our engineering team to convey customer insights to improve our product.

What we're looking for:
  • 1-3 years in an outbound, sales development, or customer-facing role at a B2B software company, or an unusually convincing case for why you'll be great without it
  • A history of exceeding targets, or a track record of being unusually good at something hard outside of sales
  • Strong technical aptitude. You don't need to have shipped production code, but you should know what a pull request is, why review is a bottleneck, and what changed when coding agents arrived
  • Exceptional written communication. Short, specific, non-generic writing is most of this job
  • Entrepreneurial drive and success in fast-moving startup environments, especially those focused on AI and developer tools
  • Comfort building a playbook instead of following one, including the parts of your first version that turn out to be wrong

The base pay for the Founding Business Development Representative position ranges from $90k/year to $130k/year. Pay is based on several factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
About you
  • You are extremely high agency. We are a small startup and we intend to keep an extremely flat organizational structure for as long as possible. Instead of relying on people managers, product managers and heavy processes, we rely on exceptionally talented individuals with high agency to be self-motivated towards contributing to our mission.
  • You want to work at an early stage startup. The default state of any startup is failure. The only way to overcome the daunting odds of making a startup venture successful is for a densely packed group of insanely hard working and talented people to work together to build something useful to and loved by customers. If you're not willing to work extremely hard on something high risk, this startup isn't for you.
  • You act like an owner. You put immense care and craft into what you build because you take responsibility for all parts of the product. You don't walk past broken windows.
  • You care about what we're building. Life's too short to work on something you're not passionate about. We are a small group of ambitious people who want to build something insanely great that we want to use, and that we think every company will want to use. If our mission and product don't resonate with you, we understand and would encourage you to find something that does.
