About the roleForward Deployed Engineers are how Trunk Tools gets into the field. You'll embed directly with our general contractor customers, stand up Cortex and our agents inside their real projects, and own the work of turning a pilot into a result the customer can measure: submittal reviews cut from 54.8 days to 14, a 20-sheet bulletin reviewed in under 10 minutes instead of roughly 6 hours, RFIs answered before they're ever sent.
This is an early-career role built for engineers who want to write real code, sit with real builders on real jobsites, and watch their work land in weeks, not quarters. You'll learn both the construction domain and the craft of deployment under experienced Forward Deployed Engineers, and everything you pick up in the field will flow straight back into the product.
What you'll do- Deploy Cortex and the agents into live projects. Connect a customer's document set, integrate with the systems they already run (Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud), and configure the agents around how their teams actually work.
- Create new custom agents for use on live projects. Leverage the Trunk Tools platform to create new agents for specific customer use cases that can be built, deployed, and used within a project, and used by the customer organization on multiple projects.
- Own the data-to-outcome loop for your accounts. Get a working, measurable result on the customer's own drawings, specs, and submittals, fast, so the value is undeniable.
- Sit with the builders. Spend time on jobsites and in trailers with project engineers, assistant project managers, and superintendents to learn their workflow and drive real adoption, not just a login.
- Write production-quality code. Build the tooling that makes each deployment work, and make it hold up as something the platform can reuse rather than a one-off.
- Feed the field back into the product. Bring what you learn to Product and Engineering so Cortex and the knowledge graph get sharper with every deployment.
- Partner with the account team. Work alongside the deal owner from first proof through expanding across the customer's portfolio.
What we're looking for- 0 to 3 years of software engineering experience with strong computer-science fundamentals. Recent graduates with substantial project or internship experience are encouraged to apply.
- Working proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript, and comfort with APIs, data, and building integrations between systems.
- Clear, direct communication and genuine comfort in front of customers. We hire engineer-diplomats: people who can write code in the morning and earn a superintendent's trust in the afternoon.
- Willingness to travel to jobsites and customer offices, and real comfort working in the field, hard hat included.
- A bias to action. You ship, you watch what breaks, you fix it, and you pick up a new domain quickly.
- Low ego and a builder's respect for the people doing the work.
Bonus points- Exposure to construction, architecture, or engineering, or genuine curiosity about how buildings get built.
- Familiarity with data, machine learning, or retrieval systems.
- Prior customer-facing, deployment, or forward-deployed work.
- Hands-on experience with Procore or Autodesk Construction Cloud.
