FOREPERSON - PARKS
(Permanent Full-Time)
The West Vancouver Parks Department has an opening for a Permanent Full-Time Foreperson. Reporting to the Parks Coordinators, the Foreperson will be a working leader performing the following duties:
• Work closely with the Parks Forester to respond to tree requests, conduct tree assessments and coordinate tree-related work, while supporting other parks operations as seasonal priorities require;
• Plan, schedule, supervise, train and assist the Park Ranger Team, with responsibilities and work priorities adjusting throughout the year to meet operational needs;
• Engage in parks maintenance, including arboriculture, trail vegetation management and other duties as required;
• Assist in the resolution of various issues;
• Use Geographical Information Survey (GIS) and related mapping tools to support parks operations, work planning, inspections and record keeping;
• Review requirements for personnel, equipment, materials, and tools, as well as allocating equipment as necessary;
• Determine methods for overcoming obstacles encountered in the course of daily work routines;
• Inspect and participate in work to ensure that project specifications, quality, safety regulations, and standards are adhered to;
• Prepare and maintain work records, time sheets, and reports of work activities as required;
• Ensure the safety of workers and compliance with all applicable safety rules, regulations, requirements, procedures, and processes.
• Conduct employee evaluations as required.
The successful candidate has: graduated from secondary school, three years of related or general Parks experience; excellent communication with strong leadership skills; ability to deal effectively and courteously with staff and establish and maintain good relations with the public and contractors; ability to determine and develop project activities and propose appropriate work methods. The preferred candidate will possess additional education/certification in supervision/leadership, arboriculture, forestry, bylaw and administration or another related discipline. Additionally, previous experience in a Park Ranger or similar position and direct supervisory experience in a union environment will be considered an asset.

Position Status:
Union (WVMEA) - Permanent, Full-time
Hours of Work:
40 hours per week (Saturday and Sunday as part of weekly schedule, and availability for evening shift rotation)
Starting Rate of Pay:
$42.96 per hour
This position has a pay structure with three steps which increase based on hours completed in the position and upon completion of specific courses.
