  • Develop metrics to track reliability targets and ensure effective cross-functional communication.
  • Oversee the execution of fixed equipment projects aimed at enhancing reliability and provide technical guidance to project managers.

Full Job Description
The Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer is responsible for the fixed equipment mechanical integrity program of the plant for fixed equipment - including process piping, tanks, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, relief devices, and special emphasis items. The fixed equipment reliability engineer will be responsible for continued and sustainable improvements of fixed assets within the facility

Key Responsibilities

Manage the overall fixed equipment mechanical integrity program and shall conform to good safety and reliability principles, government laws, and industrial codes and standards.

Ensure compliance in all areas and make necessary decisions to meet compliance requirements.

Support, participate in and review Root Cause Failure Analyses ensuring action items result in risk reduction

Manage staff and contract mechanical integrity employees

Champion the site fixed equipment mechanical integrity best practices, evaluate new technology and ideas to continuously improve reliability of fixed equipment

Assist Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance departments in training, and processes ensuring fixed equipment is operated & maintained properly

Provide input to the planning and scheduling process to ensure a good balance of repair vs proactive maintenance

Ensure key reliability targets are developed and mechanisms put into place to track progress through metrics

Ensure cross functional communication making the most value-added decisions for the plant

Safely, efficiently, and reliably complete outages with leak free start-ups

Own the bad actor management process for fixed equipment and take appropriate action to eliminate failures

Ensure reliability improvement strategies are implemented for decreased cost and operations interruption

Develop and implement reliability expectations for preventative and predictive activities

Manage the continued development and lead the site quality assurance and quality control initiatives

Participate Process Hazard Analyses as required

Develop fixed equipment projects resulting in improved reliability & provide technical guidance to project managers and engineers.

Develop and lead special emphasis fixed equipment mechanical integrity initiatives and develop budgets for each.

Perform Fit for Service calculations for fixed equipment

Required Skills

  • 10 years of experience in fixed equipment design, fabrication, repairs, and/or inspection.
  • Ability to work in a plant environment involving climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights, entering confined spaces, walking, crawling, crouching, balancing, and sitting.
  • Extended hours may be required including weekends and holidays. Must be willing to have on call responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong knowledge of ASME and API codes of construction, repair, rerate and alteration.
  • Working knowledge of other non-destructive testing techniques
  • Experience working with a CMMS and IDMS
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and construction drawings.


Desired Skills/Competencies:
  • Knowledge of API 571, API 574, API 575, NBIC
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with Meridium or GE APM-MI
  • Sologic for Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • Experience with industry available fixed equipment design and fit for service computer programs


Education, Certifications & Licenses

  • Bachelor of Science degree in designated Engineering or related field. 15 years of fixed equipment related experience will be considered as equivalent.
